Why should I care? I think we have our own problem with our own politicians! I supported the Conservatives, and I hate when they ingnore citizens stuck in other countries, even though those there should have known better!
There is an Iranian / Canadiian Canadian journalist being detained in Iran. What an idiot to think that he could make a differance reporting on his former homeland. The Iranians do not accept that he is Canadian!
Hello,
I wanted to send you a quick message regarding the horrific situation in Iran. As Canadians, and as those that live and breathe democratic values, we stand up for democracy when it is under pressure. However, compared to our own political hiccups, Iranians are experiencing something on a completely different scale. Government thugs in Iran are beating women and students and are sometimes opening fire with live ammunition against protesters. These protesters are speaking out against presidential elections with reports of widespread irregularity and what many Iranians are calling fraud.
In Canada, many of us feel helpless watching this from abroad and wonder what we can do. I'm asking for your help because I know that you are someone that loves their own democratic freedom. If we mount international pressure on the Iranian regime, we will further marginalize it for its brutal and anti-democratic actions. We can help the Iranian people. Here are some of the things we can do:
1) Visit http://www.RallyForIran.com to record a message of support for the Iranian people. Use the tools there to build this movement and to let the Iranian people we stand with them.
2) Call the embassies of: China (613) 789-3434 (press (0) for the operator), Russia (613) 235-4341 and Venezuela (613) 235-5151 (x31) in Ottawa and let them know that backing the anti-democratic government in Iran hurts its people.
3) Email the Prime Minister (pm@pm.gc.ca) and our foreign affairs minister (Cannon.L@parl.gc.ca) and tell them to keep up the pressure.
4) Email the Iranian ambassador to Canada (ambassador@iranembassy.org) and tell them to tell their government to allow free assembly in Iran,
5) There is a news blackout in Iran imposed by the Iranian government. News about Iran is largely facilitated by Twitter. Use Twitter tools at Twitter at http://www.RallyforIran.com to apply pressure in our own country and spread the word that Iranians seek a free and democratic Iran.
Let's show the Iranian people that we stand with them during this difficult time.
