Sure. But you know what they say about opinions? They are like a$$holes, everyone has one.

Put a dozen economists in a room and have them write their opinion on what happened. You'd end up with 12 different opinions.

What the media tends to do is sensationalize a story. So they go looking for opinions that help do just that.

Or they look for opinions that complement their political ideology. And print them.

They are relying on stupid people like me to read their opinion pieces and formulate my opinion based upon such biased opines.

Have only seen vague statements nothing of real substance as to the wording have you , many of these things never really see the light of public scrutiny . If you find it let me know .

What Harper should have told Iggy is
"1) You have no credibility amongst the Canadian voter.
2) Your party does not have enough money to send a postcard, let alone run a national campaign.
3) Your party is still reeling from the performance of your last leader, Mr Mustard.
4) Other than being the President of the PTA, you have no political experience, let alone thinking that you could be Prime Minister.
5)Your party has no platform.
6) Our last set of ads was merely a warm-up, buckle up and hang on for the ride.
7) Go ahead, pull the trigger."

I think Harper and Iggy both knew these things before they met.

In the game of politics between Harper and Iggy, I'd put my coin behind Harper anyday. So-called "intellectuals" like Iggy don't last long in politics...it's too dirty for them.

That's true. You can't win with facts or good ideas. The public doesn't pay attention long enough for that to work. Any platforms or ideas that can't fully be expressed in a couple of sentences aren't good for politics. Other parties can make up whatever they want about them and no one goes through the effort to find out what the truth is. And the media is just looking for headlines and short quotes so they don't help the situation. Intellectuals try to put together more complex plans that might actually work, but to get elected you really need something simple with some nice buzz words that may or may not do anything. By the time you need to implement it you've already either won or lost the election so it doesn't really matter anymore.
