Dix warned that some of the potential cuts – such as closing the ER at Mission Memorial Hospital – would actually increase carbon emissions by sending patients further afield.
"Obviously when you shut down regional centres it makes people travel farther to get to their health care facility," he said.

This sounds like a perfect reason to never vote Liberal again!!
I hope anyone who ever needs health care in Canada is paying attention.

"You have public hospitals cutting services to pay a tax that goes to another 100 per cent government-owned agency," NDP health critic Adrian Dix said.
"That just doesn't make sense."

I hate to say it, but, I agree with her..this doesn't make sense.

Animal Farm eh wot.

I don't know if anyone caught this...and it's a bit OT...but I find it amusing.

Apparently someone in the US has proposed a "Dietary Tax" program.

Something similar to the carbon tax system, but for diets for children...since obesity is so high.

I heard it on the radio...so can't quote it exactly...but basically kids get points "credits" for what they eat, and lose credits for others things.
What makes it funny, is that for the carbon tax credits...if my company wants to pollute the air...we can buy carbon tax credits from another company (or a government agency) which gives us "extra" credits to use.

So basically...all the skinny kids will be "selling" their credits to all the obese kids Wink. So the kids who want to eat that Big Mac will have to start saving some extra money Very Happy

Hey, I thought it was supposed to be the "evil" Libs that brought in the Carbon Tax....????

So, with this revelation....should we be looking out for locust's and other plagues?

oh sorry

Yeah the Cons always support some sort of carbon trade type system they just were not really sure what. Then after meeting with Obama they basically decided to do what he said was best.

oh, ok thanks!

I guess I'm just wondering where the outrage is on this file....when I read that a few days ago, I was almost positive I would hear/see some kind of something about it...

I am completely pissed about this whole cap and trade and carbon nonsense. Its useless, utterly retarded. it allows the RICH to do whatever to the they want to the environment as long as there is some poor person(company, country) somewhere willing to give up his right to burn carbon.

That original article is all over the place. The money goes into funding to help reduce emissions, thus reducing the amount you pay but more importantly, reduces emissions. That's the whole point. So by the numbers they are putting about $1.2 million into programs to reduce their footprint. If they were exempt from the tax they wouldn't be making those changes. If you want a system that's actually going to get people to improve their systems you need financial incentives. It's the basic premise of a carbon tax. Apparently in this case it's working. Their budget has bigger problems if they are $100 million short.

Just too bad that throwing all this money around chasing carbon reduction will do little if anything to help the "global Warming" that everyone is all on about,

Assuming there's no correlation then yes, it will do nothing.

I wouldn't say it's doing nothing...

It's reducing pollution....isn't that a good thing? Or have we all just de-evolved into the Smoggies? (look it up....funny cartoon!)

the evil doer or some redskin tribe should plant a hundred thousand hectares of hemp and donate the carbon credit to them poor seascapers.

rooftop hemp growing would go a hell of a long way to
1) sucking up some major amounts of carbon

2) reducing energy consumption do to air conditioning

3) reducing rain water run off clogging the sewers.

4) use grey water and reduce its introduction to the sewers

5) reduce the amount of trees killed for paper usage.

MAKE IT HAPPEN TICK!

Wouldn't the reduction be off-set by the increased production at Zig-Zag ?

I wonder if switching from alcohol production to marijuana production would save carbon emissions.

It would sure as heck save lives.
