I caught a blurb on Breakfast television this morning. Something about the province introducing legislation that would institute fines for anyone who interferes with a guide/helper animal/dog. Or something like that

Legislation introduces fines for touching service dogs 6/9/2009 Touching, feeding or otherwise impeding service animals in Manitoba will soon be a fineable offence. NDP MLA Sharon Blady says the new legislation is aimed at protecting animals such as seeing eye dogs or police sniffer dogs from being interfered with while they're trying to do their jobs. A first offence could see a fine as high as five-thousand dollars and a second offence could net the offender a fine of up to 10-thousand dollars. The legislation also allows judges to order offenders to pay compensation to the animal's owner for loss or damage. |
