So, with the final plan decided, it's almost time for construction to begin. How will the closure affect your daily commute? With a new ped/bike bridge built, will it be faster to commute by bike? (Summertime).

What is the final plan? I heard a while back that they were actually planning to downgrade some of the Disraeli to at-grade intersections with traffic lights Rolling Eyes Please tell me this isn't the case, as I have also hear that they were planning to disassemble the Jubilee overpass and put that intersection into an at-grade with traffic lights.

Only in Winnipeg.

EdWin. That is a troll-like comment...

I've heard neither rumour. Jubilee is to be rebuilt. I don't know if there are changes contemplated now due to the BRT thing. As for Disraeli, My understanding that the city planners are hell bent to rebuild the existing bridge and add a new pedestrian/cyclist bridge adjacent.

Where are all these rumours coming from? Pffft. Only in Edmonton.

Gee, I just read that last sentence. Even I find it annoying. Mostly because it adds nothing of value to my position.

/Holier than thou rant.

Not really troll like in my opinion, as I did read about it on SSP earlier in the year; same with the Jubilee overpass. Perhaps these are rumors, but you have to admit that it wouldn't be surprising to see Winnipeg City Council adopt these plans.

I hope they are only rumors.

Will be nice to get the bikes off the bridge proper as for them and motorists it is dangerous

Anyone wanna lay odds that five years from now after the reconstruction is finally finished they'll realize the bridge should have been twinned and expanded to six lanes?

Oh yeah. Some bozo might admit it. What pisses me off is that the planners/bureaucrats/councilors can't see it today.

That is the way we do it here, look at Kenaston , Lagimodiere, and a couple of other streets.

It seems to me that it would cost a heckava' lot more to build a seperate bridge for pedestrians and cyclists.

WTF are they thinking? That bridge will sure get a lot of use in the winter months eh? NOT.

Might take the fun out of going down and up the river banks with cross-country skiis.
Although I saw a bike route painted on the right lanes in the project diagrams. I guess the Chinese will buy all our cars, and we'll buy all their bicycles...

I doubt they'll build a separate bridge for cyclist/motorist...though after the DINK bridge, it might be a model they want to copy. Maybe they'll put a Tim's in the middle?

I think it's more likely they will put a bike lane on the bridge.

Maybe they'll reference here:

To see what's available.

"Maybe they'll put a Tim's in the middle?"

shite if they did that, they would not even need to shovel the snow, the foot traffic alone would keep that bridge clean as a whistle.

Jub. at grade would be a great idea. That is the stupidest intersection I have ever driven. They could extend Jub. to Wilkes. Now that makes sense.

Splendid idea.

And we could name the bridge Tims-buck-tu.

Ok, but you'd better keep the spelling "tu" so we don't violate equal langauge laws.
