http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/canada/ignatieff-threatens-summer-election-46802952.html

Iggie is considering triggering an election...(if he can)

get this.. he is pissed that our deficit is so high, yet is also pissed that infrastructure funds are not flowing.

Iggie you do know that "FUNDS" have an impact on the deficit right?

Iggie is also pissed that EI has not been "equalized" across the country. Well Iggie perhaps if you had stayed in Canada you would realize that is a Liberal change to the program. But more importantly Iggie...you need to realize that people on EI also means more Money spent ( and hence increase that deficit that pisses you off)... oh and hey Iggie.. tell me.. who spent the 60 Billion Dollar surplus from IE that should have been built up?

Lastly Iggie tells us he hates a democracy
Ignatieff also signalled that Liberals will not support the Harper government's third attempt to impose eight-year limits on the terms served by senators.

Maybe they should impose term limits on themselves as well while they are at it.

I bet a lot of the conservatives would be behind that.

I beg to differ.

Career politicians wouldn't want to do anything to upset the apple cart. Just take a look at some of the baffonery that goes on around here....like Blakie living off the public purse, gets a pension and then "retires" to public life in the lege...still collecting.

And your going to ask those people to put a stop to that kind of thing by putting term limits? Ha!

Blakie is fortunately not a conservative. Smile

At the municipal level it is conservative minded people who suggest and support term limits.

I didn't know that municipal politicians acknowledged party affiliations?

And yeah, I know Blakie's a NDP...just using that egregious buffoonery as an example. oops

Oh yeah some municipal people even have the "supported by the NDP" on their election signs. And such

What I dont like about ANY debate on term limits is that CURRENTLY sitting people are not subject to the limits and never will be. Thats what was proposed here in the city, what was proposed for the senate and so on.

Yeah, that's horse sh*t, no grandfather clause....if anything, retroactive to the previous election.

But yeah, you can see, no sitting politician is going to willingly stop the gravy train. Kudos to those who have set their own term limits and lived by them...

I would even say the moment the legislation passes it kicks in.

The problem being of course at the federal level... what is a term when you have new elections every two years. And at the city level where the elections are set in stone, what happens if you come in mid term? Does that count as 1? Or only half a term? and if only half a term does that then mean that you are basically forcing midterm elections on a mass scale and costing us alot of money?

Well if someone in Ottawa would keep his party out of trouble then you would not have them every two years lol!

It would not matter what party was in power under a minority government. Nor would it matter how well they governed. The opposition will drive their own agenda and that is to get elected as the reigning government. Then the cycle begins again.
