Not that quickly. If the city cannot conduct thorough inspections then someone needs their ass kicked.

Surely the City has enough white pick up trucks that they could have guys who assigned to specific projects and conduct inspections not only at pre-determined milestones, but also random spot checks to ensure that specs are maintained. In construction projects that I've been involved in, the City has no problem stopping work until they inspect (electrical before walls are finished), so why can't they do the same for themselves.

In the case of my street, there was less than half an inch of overlay...at leat where the pot hole exposed the substrate.

It should never have been allowed to be done in that manner. The results of doing it that way are self-evident....the potholes have already begun.

someone definately messed up with your street JTF.. UNLESS.. ( and the city will sometimes do this ) ... they put in a temporary measure, with the plans to totally redo the road in X years... doubtful in your case, but it has happened.

No. This was a complete re-do....they took off some of the old asphault. fixed some curbs, and put a new asphault overlay on the street. (That is, as complete as they do.)

I've been to a few Gertrude / Wardlaw Association meetings. It's very evident that she has an agenda and if what you are interested in discussing isn't of any interest to her, or on her agenda, forgetaboutit! She has a little group of her supporters and if your political affiliation isn't Nipper, they will have nothing to do with you or your concerns.

It's a terrible situation really.

And...if they were truly redoing your street...they would've closed both ends and gutted it, then laid new rebar down and poured all new concrete.

It sounds more like a bandaid fix due to high volumes of complaints.

And you can call 1000 times now about a couple of potholes...it's not going to help (other than to maybe get the pothole truck to swing by and drop some tar).

The street repairs are decided by inspectors, who basically triage the roads and determine which most require repair over others.

Heaving, gaps, and major damage are selected first.

In our area, they seem to take one road each summer (for the past 5 years) and redone it from end-to-end. They haven't gotten to ours yet...but to be honest our road isn't too bad (not like our back lane)

If they did a bandaid patch for yours...odds are you're not on the list for a complete redo for a number of years...and they were just trying to appease the whiners who kept calling them.

has got to be at least one nipper on your street that is pissed about it... but then again, it was probably a union job, so maybe not.

they also use ground penetrating radar to analyze the roads to do a fix now for a lot less type thing.

There were NO potholes on the streets around my place that they did. Yet they were completely redone in many places even the new rebar.

Well, there are two issues which I wish to speak to the city about.
1. The poor workmanship of the original work, and
2. The piss-poor workmanship of the repair.

They sent a crew out a day or so after my call the first time...a regular crew with shovels and raw asphault, not that friggn' stupis gravel/tar machine.
