why torture people when you can just kill them.. other then fun its a waste of effort..

Dont forget JT... Bush declared that no matter what any american agents did they would not be held responsible and therefore not liable for war crimes... and see you Monday Smile

Would the methods of torture used then be deemed ineffective? or standard procedure?

I have no idea what it would be like had the Axis dominated WW2. And I don't see what relevance that has to this at all.

The fact that there is a precedence that has been set already, that waterboarding and torture is illegal, and a war crime. Period.

Bring on the trials.

P.S. And just because W said things were legal, doesn't make them so. Just take a look at all the legal opinions that were tossed just before, and directly after Obama took office as an example.

So, who should "they" arrest and try? Who are the "they"?

in addition to Alberto Gonzales, Federal Appeals Court Judge and former
Assistant Attorney General Jay Bybee, University of California law
professor and former Deputy Assistant Attorney General John Yoo, former
Defense Department general counsel and current Chevron lawyer William
J. Haynes II, Vice President Cheney’s former chief of staff David
Addington, and former Undersecretary of Defense Douglas J. Feith

Of course, the prosecution of these men, very well may, and should lead to prosecutions of top level officials such as former secretary of defense Donald Rumsfeld, former Vice President Cheney and former President George W. Bush, who ultimately ordered torture and allowed it to take place.

And so Obama's refusal to investigate war crimes
is itself against the law. And so torture's cancerous route through the
legal and constitutional system continues, contaminating the future as
well as the past, rendering the US incapable of upholding Geneva
against other nations, because it has violated Geneva itself, and
giving to every tyrant on the planet a justification for the torture of
prisoners.
In this scenario, America becomes a city on a hill, where the rule of law is optional and torture acceptable if parsed into legal memos that do not pass the most basic professional sniff-test.
America becomes a banana republic.

"And I'm still baffled how anyone in their right mind can possibly
defend these torture policies in the face of overwhelming evidence
condemning it. I mean, it's torture! Yet the right continues
to chug from their bottomless mug of contradictions -- even Senator
McCain, who endured unspeakable atrocities at the hands of the North
Vietnamese, has fallen into this trap. Last year, in the heat of a
presidential campaign, the senator voted in favor of allowing the CIA to continue to use the same techniques described in the OLC memos. Only now has he condemned the CIA's use of torture.

As I wrote in my book,
if we can't protect ourselves with our morals intact, we don't deserve
to be protected in the first place. I suspect that by allowing this
gaping hole in our national morality, the Bush administration has
successfully created more threats than it claims to have thwarted. And
hearing the irrationally fear-driven arguments from unapologetic
cowards like Hannity and Limbaugh understandably leads us all to think
that certain Republicans will gladly acquiesce to anything -- any trespass against our values or even basic logic -- in the name of protecting you from that one in 9.3 million chance (of dieing in a terrorist attack)"

their may be an independent prosecutor set up to investigate all of this! I don't think waterboarding one person 186 times in a month is excessive! "He had it coming" is a very good saying to remember!
Another saying is "Might is Right"!
Right wing militaristic, Cheney, Bush who else? Colin Powell got out pretty fast when they left him high and dry, lying to the U.N., with their false "proof"!
Man that was embarrasing!!
Obama will get everything right! he is the best Black President that the u.s. HAS EVER HAD, and he has got a great selection of advisors!
