Grand Beach. Best to go by yourself first, just to check it out.

Sal's on the bridge. Just kidding.

By all means visit the Forks. It might be under water in April. Maybe not though. A walk down Corydon Avenue might be nice. Manitoba Museum? Exchange District?

red river ex is really a meh... the loss of the farm/exhibition component it used have really detracts from the whole reason to have a massive exhibition like that.

Spend a day in the Exchange. If she's not shy, bring a camera and do a photoshoot of each other. Or bring a friend to do a photoshoot of the two of you. There are a lot of great new places in the Exchange. I'd hit up the Pastry Castle or the Royal Diner (in the Albert).

Catch a play at one of the many theatres or a local concert.

Make it a mission to find the restaurant with the "best" of something - perogies, burgers, cheesecake, etc.

Get tours of local do-gooder organizations and find a way to connect with the community. Siloam's facility surprised me. If she's interested in helping with immigrants/refugees, also look into the International Centre. There's also tons of women's organizations and neighbourhood groups.

Go to the St. Norbert Farmer's Market.

----

On a related note, what's new in Winnipeg that I should check out? I was away between May '08 to Feb '09. Hydro tower is looking great in our skyline, I must say. I can't wait for the Human Rights museum to go up. I wish they'd renovate the Children's Museum.

yeah you are referring to not much actually. ( like petting zoo and Major manufacturers and such )

I am referring to the (probably more then 10 years ago now ) REAL farm exhibition stuff that you can better find at the Morris stampede now.

yeah yeah.. definately dont forget that one...heh once summer rolls around there is a festival of some sort (or two) every weekend within a two hour drive of Winnipeg.

Also.. winter.. take in an ice fishing derby and a "poker derby" again almost every weekend once the ice freezes.. some of the bigger ones are just mind boggling to behold.

heh, neither of us are much for golf, but shes definately into photography so good tip re the exchange photos

fishing will be definately done, as will the red river ex, though i wish it were still at the polo park location, just nastalgia for me, shes an animal lover/ecohippie so penned animals arent her thing with the small exception of maybe seeing animals in a zoo that couldn't otherwise be released.

good tips folks, any more??

I will definately be hitting the BDI for a goog special

then maybe a visit to the new Human Society building? Very Happy.

Though, the red river ex animals are only partially penned...it's more of a "petting zoo" where you actually can touch the animals (if they let you).

haha, i'm guessing thats a joke, but thats totally up her ally, just talking now over breakfast and she says "im totally excited that my recyclables will get recycled now" because as it is right now, being so remote, the only things recycled are things with deposits and whatever we put in the compost.
