I recall the mayor of Edmonton telling the Mayor of Winnipeg that he envies our city because of our exchange district. The old Chicago style buildings are one of our greatest assets.EdWin wrote:JTF wrote:I hope you're wrong.
Really? You disagree with every single point I've made in the previous statement?
Anyways, I expect to generate controversy with my vision for Winnipeg. It happened in NW, and I'll bet it will happen here. I now live in a city that is striving for the best in almost every way possible. I've tasted this, and now I want it for my hometown.
I'll use this analogy. I'm sure most of your parents encouraged and nurtured you as you grew up. They always told you to accept yourself for who you are. But didn't they also tell you to be the best that you can be? To strive for the best in your life and to never give up? Well, that is the way I see things now, but didn't always have that attitude. When I lived in Winnipeg, I had little expectations for the city, like your average Winnipegger. But when I started to travel across the country, and live in different cities, my eyes were opened to what growing, vibrant and active cities are. And now I want this for Winnipeg. The city deserves it.
I say enough with the "loserpeg, winterpeg, barrenfrozen wasteland, can't do, never going to happen, too small, too poor, welfarepeg" joking mentalities that I have grown up with. It's pure and utter garbage. This needs to stop now. I don't understand how so many Winnipeggers can talk about their hometown like this, including myself when I was younger, but this has changed now. I'm tired of being told that Winnipeg can't, because I know damn well Winnipeg can. Period.
Yes, captain positivity is here to stay

In each neighborhood up and down the street and across the back lanes we all had a good idea who we all were, knew which kids belonged where, etc.Just a great feeling of community all around, I don't understand why we would want to change this.

Will Winnipeg still be "Winnipeg" with a million people? Probably. The problem I have is our attitude. We never seem to push for something better. I can't imagine for the life of me how we developed such an attitude. You encounter it whenever anything new, bigger, better is proposed. Like the stadium, or BRT, or a museum, convention centre...

Yes all places do it but we are very good at it and should be proud of it .
I love the fact that we're not quite big enough for an NFL football team, but we ARE big enough for hooters.Pavolo wrote:There is always tons of naysayers every where in Winnipeg but lets hear from the people who love this city problems and all .
