I wasn't aware that the government counted Hydro and MPIC profits as income?
Is this how it has always worked?
Anyone know?
I guess there is nothing wrong with that, if that is how it has been done in the past.
Strange that they would put money in from the rainy day fund.

The Auditor General suggested a couple of years ago that they should report on a consolidated basis.Of course the NDP jumps at this, because now they can count income from crown corporations. So what this means is that if Hydro shows a $250 Million profit, they can run a $250 operating budget deficit and still claim they have a balanced budget.

If they had any sense of fiscal responsibility, they'd amend the balanced budget legislation to exclude Crown Corporations when determining if the government has a balanced budget, since the government doesn't set the budgets of the crown corporations.

There is no more info on the government website either. Would be nice if they posted an actual report instead of a press release that the Freep staff regurgitator can copy word for word onto the web site.

There is an old saying that I think is appropriate

"Statistics don't lie,
Statisticians do"
