"Chilling Evidence of Negligence"
Really scary, really very bothersome!
Does this mean that some? Many? Very Few? police are so racist that they would take someone out in freezing weather on purpose, and put their lives in danger?
http://www.injusticebusters.com/04/Stonechild_Neil.shtml

Do we think that maybe they wee just "funning" around?
Is this the thin blue line that we have heard about?

Yes this is it and funny just the other day I was wondering what had become of the case , glad to see the appeal lost . The bastards should have rot in jail , sad to say this was a common occurrence at one time in Canada. I was living there when this first hit the press.

racism can be found in any region, any profession, unfortunately.

Yes true look at the Sinclair fiasco, but this was to partake in the method knowingly taken him out to probably death. As I said the Wpg has been accused of doing the same . For the police to do this is wrong no matter what the excuse , and there were many.

Was the sinclair think racism? My opinion says no.

Back to the case at hand... Why is the police association paying for a lawyer in this case?

What is it that would lead an officer to do this? Frustration would be no excuse?
Is there a fine line between bully behavior and being a police officer?
Certainly one would have to be aggressive in their nature to be a policeman?

Unions have a duty to defend their members, as misguided as that may be.

There's no question in my mind that there are bullies on the police force, and they should be weeded out. But, I figure inappropriate behaviour is more about abuse of power than anything else. Some let it go to their head.

But they are not members any more.. They were fired a long time ago.

In Saskatoon, 2 officers Dan Hatchen and Ken Munson were sent to jail for a similar offence. So , the police force and the justice system can do the right thing in protecting a person's rights.
I think I read that there were 0 aboriginals on the force at the time. Now that is scary. If there were aboriginals on the force, that would go a long way into dispelling racist feelings, as when you work with other races you see that everyone is similar.
We all bleed red!

thats very true rosen, we definitely need more aboriginals on many police forces across the country!

and to answer your question "Certainly one would have to be aggressive in their nature to be a policeman?"
i think they try and weed out the overly aggressive people during the hiring phase, as you want officers to be assertive, not aggressive. during training at work we try and teach our members that aggressiveness gets them hurt real fast, as aggressive people tend to close distances too fast or try to rely on intimidation or physical strength over proper communication and technique.

obviously, as seen in cases like this, people sometimes make it through the system who shouldnt have.

unfortunately the case in question was quite the norm for a long time, its only sorta recently that police forces across Canada learned that racism was bad ( you know just like the rest of society )

to answer the question.. why do police kill?

apparently because they have a quota... seriously
http://www.ajc.com/metro/content/metro/atlanta/stories/2009/02/23/johnston_sentencing.html

The department statement came a day after a federal judge sent three fallen cops to prison for their roles in the raid on Johnston’s Neal Street home.

The judge said performance quotas influenced the officers’ behavior
