You could try approaching home-based businesses that might have some promo product to try to increase their clientele.

You can't bring open alcohol into the establishment, therefore jello shots are a no go. boo.
and body shots could get awkward with parents/grandparents/aunts around....ya know.

Call me old school but why should business give donate any thing to a wedding , where did this practise start and why .
Our company has stopped all together as it is absurd the amount of requests we get.. I disagree with it it is your wedding pay for it . The social used to be to raise the couple a bit of money to help out, now it is greed . A couple of bottles has turned in to 3 hrs of drawing for prizes. Not to say this is you love and hate just the practice in general .

I think alot of companies have pulled out because of the fact that socials have gotten out of hand. People now are having socials for their 18th birthday, or I was even invited to one for a girl who was going back backing in Europe it was a goodbye social, but she got the proceeds, cause she didn't have much money to start off with.
As for wedding socials, I think it's awesome that there is a way to help the bride and groom out in anyway. Especially in this case when the two getting married have another 7 years of school to go, to become doctors.
plus they are always a great time, and a great way to make some people feel better that they actually don't get invited to the wedding!!! ha!

That must be a realllllly big family to get 22K, or did they include their presentation from the wedding as well???

Cause most social halls only hold 600 people, so at 10 dollars a pop, thats $600 dollars (if you sell that many tickets) Yes I know my math skills are astonishing. Plus with booze and social prizes I really don't think you can make (we'll say for 15K) $9K. Plus having to pay off the hall, food, DJ, and whatever you lost for purchasing the "grand" prizes.

15K from the social prizes...

And dont forget about "grannie tickets" ie they sell tickets to the social but the tickets dont actually get you in the door and are meant for "grannie" to be able to support you without going

Heh....

Anyone who sells grannie a special ticket that doesn't get them in the door ought to be slapped! The reason some companies donate merch to socials is because it can be a marketing opportunity. I agree it is very uncouth to brag about how much they rake in on the social. Very tacky.

And there are socials in parts of ontario... they call them jack and jills in Thunder Bay. But I assume IG Guy was talking about Toronto... where a social would be considered very un-hip.

I thought that "socials" were unique to The Peg.
