Yes but if a permit search was not done the real estate agent sold something that was not properly described on the title.

this is what the city has on record:

Living Area: 790 sq. ft.
Building Type: 4 Level Split
Basement: Yes
Basement Finish: No
Year Built: 1957
Rooms: 3
Air Conditioning: No
Fireplace(s): No
Attached Garage: No
Detached Garage: Yes
Pool: No

And this is what it actually is:

Living Area: 1002 sq. ft.
Building Type: 4 Level Split
Basement: Yes
Basement Finish: Yes
Year Built: 1957
Rooms: 8
Air Conditioning: yes
Fireplace(s): No
Attached Garage: No
Detached Garage: Yes
Pool: No

now if permits were issued, wouldn't this info reflect the actually stats of the house?

so the insurance company is sending some one around today. I had a friend stop last night that runs a demolishing company and he used to do damage assesments for insurance companies and just what he can see, the cost of repair is at about $45,000. But he said that its diffenently an insurance claim. but on the plus side, our plan was to replace the single and windows and that will have to be done now to fix this problem. so i guess there is always a silver lining.... lol

so the insurance company sent in a Contractor and I can tell what company is NOT a good company. Belfor! they are horrible. nobody knows what anybody is doing there. like yesterday morning they came in and ripped down 3/4 of the walls and isolation and said they would be back with some blowers to dry the walls. Its now been over 24 hours of the walls being wide open and my new furnace has been running the bag out of its self! I have never been so pissed at a company and I have had to deal with the city to fix my car!! that now seems like breeze compared to dealing with these jackasses!! NEVER USE BELFOR!!! lol

Isolation = Insulation?

Call the contractor and tell him you will be deducting the increase heating costs from his bill. Or call your insurance company. They will be interested in hearing of your dissatisfaction.

yes call the insurance company and tell them that they will be paying for the extra heating and that if your furnace dies they will be paying for that too.

haha stupid spell check.. yes i love the isolation in my walls!

But when we told the contractor how we felt about this he basically said "well do you want it fixed or not?" and insurance company really didn't seem to care... but our lawyer did... specially seen how we have not signed a paper yet from either insurance company or contractor!

oh and we wanted Benefact spayed in the wet areas to help against mold. so they came in and sprayed it. I have a buddy that works for a different company and he came in and said it smelt like soap and water. so his company came and sprayed actual Benefact, which was completely different from the stuff the other company spayed. My buddy's company gave us papers saying when they sprayed, the amount sprayed and some other stuff that made no sense to me.

When I read .."the insurance company sent out a contractor..." and you started to have trouble, the hair on my back stood up.

Some insurance adjusters are crooks and will screw you around big time. Not all, but some, and you may have one of them.

Let your lawyer handle it. You may want to ask your lawyer if you can arrange the contractor yourself, as I believe that the insurance company is only limited to dollar amounts, and not finding sleazy contractors to frick you around, as seems is happening.

yea, i am getting that feeling to. Like when my friend came in with two of his guys and right away they were like "why would they do this and that" and they were surprised that they didn't put up any insulative tarps along the exposed walls. He said it wouldn't replace insulation, but would keep help keep the chill out of the air. Asked the contractor about that and said it would make no difference and would basically be a waste of his time. So my friends company put one up on one of the walls and it makes a alright difference. but he only had one to spare right now. If things don't change fast, we are going to tell the insurance company to F'off and have my friends company come in and do it. Our lawyer is leaning that way too. So I guess we will see.

Don't piss the insurance company off just yet. Maybe tell the contractor to take a hike.

When my friends company came in and sprayed that stuff for free, he still gave me the paperwork for the job. I haven't seen anything from any one else yet!

You need someone called a project manager to make sure things are being done to code!
I would get one to oversee the project right away.
I would get a hold of your insurance company, in writing, and I would phone the BBB right away to see if there are any complaints on this company.
Your workers may be the lowest bid, which can mean the lowest quality, but really shouldn't.
Do you know anyone who knows about building to code?
How did you manage to get these guys?

Where is your protection that they are doing a "proper" job? Will the city send in an inspector? I would call the city , other than that you have to look after yourself to make sure it gets done in a way that works.
You are very fortunate to have insurance look after this.
How did it get to be an insurance claim?
I bet you that the adjuster as a long standing arrangement with this company, to get things fixed on an emergency basis, and I hope for your sake they know wht they are doing!
Check out the work as they are progressing.
If you don't have any one, perhaps another contractor would come out for a fee to check things , or the city inspectors!
