Unboarding the NORTH END... Can it be done?

So, it's the year 2012, and the North End is still boarding up and crumbling down... Isn't there any hope for Winnipeg's North End? Will this destruction eventually contaminate all the rest of the city?

Who should intervene and what should be done?

The statement is way off base in its accuracy, in my opinion. There are so many charitable institutions and groups working to effect a great positive change in the area.

On Selkirk Avenue and in between there are probably another 3 dozen groups, not counting the Churches that are all doing good work to make positive changes.

But if the natives in this area don't want to improve their own lives, how will this area ever improves. Perhaps they need to stop coming to the cities and destroying them with their less-than-stellar reserve lifestyles, but we all know that will never happen. We are stuck with natives in the cities, so now they will cry for us to "help them".

And the wheels on the bus go round and round.........................

Ever notice the one singularity the "most violent" cities in Canada share? They are all in Western Canada. They all have a disproportionately large population of a certain demographic.

Wonder why that is...

because no sane people want to live here unless they are born here?

I'm not trolling, but with all these institutions, shouldn't the results be far more positive for the area?

Don't we have a valid Armed Forces Base, which can intervene with community services, just to clean up the area every once in a while. I guess volunteers will go only so far into doing things like that, because of security issues. Maybe the problem is if the police move in to clean the area, we'd need 3 more penitentiaries to stock all the criminals basking in the low poverty stricken North End.

The debate goes on.

The problem is so complex that I doubt I will ever see a positive change in my life time. Compassion Kills, and there is no accountability nor does anyone want to take responsibility.

So many problems, but there are many being helped, and many who don't want to be helped.

We have to be there to help the ones who can be helped, and be satisfied that at least we were there to do our part, and not just say to hell with everyone!
