I think the natives are annoying more people than ever before. People are tired of all the BS.

I know I am.

So, they don't recognize the authority of the courts. But they sure recognize a news opportunity when they see one. Begs the question, why did they even show up in court anyway.

This is not about recognition of first nations, nor inequity in funding, or any other bullshit. this is about money earned by selling cheap smokes.

I don't know much about the Dakota tribe. They say they've never signed a treaty with Manitoba? Have they signed a treaty with Canada?

Or is this the group that arrived after Canada became a nation (1867) and are actually immigrants just like the English, French, Irish, Ukrainians...?

If they've signed no treaty do they receive any monies from Canada? Do they receive any services such as health care?

How exactly sovereign are they?

And on to the really stupid. The judge said.. HEY! stay open until the province submits a document saying that they will cover your expenses should we find the temporary injunction is invalid.

umm.. they openly state that they are not subject to our laws...so why should they benefit from them?

These guys protest while just today the Province announced they plan to sue the major tobacco companies for causing undue strain on our health care system... Well duh.

The various governments are just as addicted to the taxes generated from tobacco sales than smokers are to the product.

Saw the story on the CJOB website.

I kinda agree.

The government knows how much taxes are raised. Has the government calculated the added cost to the health system?

Do they offset each other?

I agree with the Aboriginals! They have no agreement with Canada. Why should they remit taxes? They dont receive any funding from Harper.

I would like to be able to purchase $20 cartons of cigarettes, not $108.

If they "have no agreement with Canada", does that mean they pay for their own housing, education, medical services, policing, etc.etc.?

You may get your wish.

The flooding has started.

Flooding? Where? Should the sellers be arrested for disobeying a court order? This is ridiculous. The more passive the province response to greater likelihood others will play the same games.
