Folklorama 2012

While it may seem early to talk about it...NOW is the time that the Pavilions start preparing.

There have already been a 1/2-dozen meetings with the Folklorama board and things are underway.

If anyone is involved with Folklorama and wants to post their requests, etc. then this should be the place to do it.

Folklorama will run from August 5 - 18th, 2012

Ukrainian Pavilion

My daughter will be dancing this year at a Ukrainian Pavilion (there are two).
It's our first year with the dance group.and being involved in Folklorama.
She will be dancing in the first two shows each day during the second week of the festival (August 12 - 18) at the West Kildonan Memorial Arena.

We are looking for volunteers to work the Pavilion.
Volunteers can indicate they can only work one night, or several nights.
Each volunteer gets a free dinner (mmm...perogies, kubasa, holupchi) and gets to watch the show (at least from their volunteer station).
If you're interested in volunteering, please send me a PM and I'll get your information to submit to the volunteer committee. They'll then contact you to confirm and provide all the other information.

I'm sure other Pavilions will be doing the same thing...so if you've wanted a chance to go to several Pavilions for FREE, you may even consider contacting the other groups about volunteering at each of them.

We've been told that working the Pavilions counts towards "volunteer points" for various groups/schools which require members/students to volunteer for various things.

I haven't been to Folklorama in years and years, maybe 20+.

Why are there two Ukranian pavilions? The one in the Maples in my opinion has always been the best Ukranian pavilion.

because just like Quebecers are different then BCers.. there are different areas in Ukraine

I can't answer that one.
I can say that they are run by two different groups.
The 2nd week is run by Zoloto Dance group, and if you've not had the opportunity to see them perform...this is the opportune time.

I'm actually going to try attending at least one show of the first week myself...just to compare notes...but I attended Zoloto's pavilion last year...and it was OUTSTANDING for their first year...can only imagine it will get better.
