went through it on Sunday. There was a huge line up waiting to get in.

It has some really odd upgrades in it. like.. three different intakes in the garage for the vacuum (two hanging from ceiling in between the cars and a third on the wall.. A skylight in the garage ( a cracked floor in the garage ) WAY to many toilets. An insanely huge wine room. Some sort of odd storage room off of the exercise room. Three dining areas ( I suspect one is supposed to be a "office" but it has a table and chairs in it. One room the is specifically decorated as a girls room (but no specific boys room).

I am a little concerned about if it was rushed or something given that they are only just now opening it ( and that crack in the garage floor) But overall its fairly nice. Big enough for my family and has some nice features that I would actually like to have (although a fridge in the master bedroom is a wee bit much )

Who wouldn't want Vacuflo intakes between all of the cars? I hate dragging out the ShopVac when I clean my cars out.

Cracks in garage slabs and basement floors are pretty common. The difference is if there is a height difference on either side of the crack or is more than an 1/8th of an inch wide.

Good luck finding a triple car garage that doesn't have a stress crack in the floor. Concrete cracks when covering large spans like a garage floor. It is just the nature of the material.

It is really just a cosmetic issue and anyone with a house like that will be filling the crack with caulking and coat the whole floor with an epoxy based paint anyways.

Concrete's strength is in compression, not tension. That's why we build houses and buildings on tall walls and pillars of concrete.

The rebar in a slab floor is what give a concrete slab better tension but it can only do so much. Hence the cracks in the slab.

Adding more rebar would reduce the cracks in the slab, but rebar costs far more than concrete so there is a cost/benefit factor there. Basically a cosmetic crack (not one where something can fall into it or one to trip over it) is rarely worth adding several hundred dollars in rebar.

Does it have a theatre in the basement? The last 3 did (6 or 8 recliner chairs and a popcorn machine)

We drove past on Saturday afternoon intending to go in however the line-up was not worth the wait - after seeing the street and house this is one I don't mind losing. When the winners put it on the market I doubt it will go for $850k let alone the claimed $1.5m valuation. Did it have a theatre in the basement like the lst 3 did (6 or 8 recliners and a popcorn machine on a slanted floor?)

Any idea how much the property taxes on this place will be?

I was interested in seeing it because of its alleged "Frank Lloyd Wright inspired design," but I'll wait until the virtual tour is up. That probably won't be for a while.

The weird thing about the pool--it was in the front of the house. They were selling it for only $550 000--much reduced because the house was in need of serious fixing up. It was actually mentioned that it could be torn down.

Here's the ad http://comfree.com/home-for-sale-charleswood-manitoba-211880

"A 2729-square-foot bungalow on the property is in need of extensive renovations or tear-down"

The backyard looks beautiful, but they don't have any shots of the house (just one with the back of the house in the background--you can barely see it). That says a lot about the old house that used to be there, I think.

eta: In searching for pictures of the new house, I found this http://fenwickinteriordesign.blogspot.ca/2012/04/finished-product-4545-roblin-boulevard.html with a lot of pictures of the interior. It's pretty fugly, I think. I've been to a few FLW homes/buildings, and I don't see a single FLW-inspired element. If I were to win that house, I'd have to spend most of the $25 000 cash on painting and redecorating.

At least I know what interior design company I should never hire.

I prefer it without the recliners and floor slant.

I don't like sitting upright in a recliner to watch TV. I much prefer lounging on the couch or lyind down with my wife when watching movies.

Just an aside, but John Mohan, the former Executive Director of Siloam Mission, who left that position because of an "indiscretion" with a staff member, and was hired as ED of the HSC Foundation less than a year ago, has now parted company with that organization.
