We have had enough time to see the Charter in action. Is Canada any freer now than it would otherwise have been? I don't think so. It has done nothing to prevent anti-English legislation in Quebec.

And I always wished somebody would have asked Trudeau if his Charter would have prevented him from invoking the War Measures Act during the FLQ crisis.

For what its worth, the implementation of the War Measures Act was probably the only thing that Trudeau did that I have any respect for.

Good question though. I can't say that we are any "freer" now than before the Act. As a matter of fact, I think that because of the liberal attitude which permeates the document, we, as a society, are less protected. This is the price of more individual rights and the constant challenges under the Act by every Tom, Dick and Harry is someone even breaks wind near them.

The criminals seem to be better protected.
