I was at Rona Revy yesterday and needed a coupler for my compressor line.

I had a choice $7.99 and made in USA or $5.99 and made in China!

What would you do?

There are only a couple of companies that still manufacture their couplers in the USA: Dixon (formerly Perfecting) and Chicago Pneumatics. In all other cases (Parker, Gates, et al), the couplers are made "overseas", and you are paying a significant markup for an American company's name.

If you ever find yourself in need of that kind of stuff, Rosen, please feel free to message me.

The one made in the USA cost $5.00 to make and the one from China cost $0.25 to make.

Myself, I'll buy made in Canada before all others, and if that option is not available then I buy made in North America.

Canadian first, American second and if not, make it the European option. China/India = no other option.

You'd be surprised at how many products are actually produced in pieces overseas & shipped over here for final assembly, just so they can label the product as having been "Made in USA" (or Canada).

Not sure about Canada but in the US they could only say "Assembled in USA". I think it is much more lax in Canada. I remember a food story a couple years ago where Canadian labels were affixed to food only repackaged here.

It would take a huge paradigm shift in North American manufacturing to be able to compete with the Chinese. They have manufacturing down to a science. Sure its on the back of their people, but that is only part of the reason that Asian manufacturing is better than what we do here in North America.

The problem with their science is that the local Managers of a processing place are given fairly large range of discretion and often substitute substandard or illegal parts or ingredients and pocket the difference in cost.

and when you are talking saving 1 cent on 100 million toothbrushes.. you can see why they might do it.
