Darn, I don't think I had her in my death pool.

(AP) LOS ANGELES - Whitney Houston, who ruled as pop music's queen
until her majestic voice and regal image were ravaged by drug use,
erratic behavior and a tumultuous marriage to singer Bobby Brown, has
died. She was 48.
Houston's publicist, Kristen Foster,
said Saturday that the singer had died, but the cause and the location
of her death were unknown.
News of Houston's death came
on the eve of music's biggest night — the Grammy Awards. It's a showcase
where she once reigned, and her death was sure to case a heavy pall on
Sunday's ceremony. Houston's longtime mentor Clive Davis was to hold his
annual concert and dinner Saturday; it was unclear if it was going to
go forward.

What's creepy is that she died in hotel in Beverly Hills, 13 minutes from where I'm currently staying in LA.

I read about her latest binge yesterday morning and commented to my wife that she wouldn't make it through 2012. How strange to have that discussion and then for it to be the next day.

Ah, but you DID pick her, Triniman. You are now in second place. She was worth 52 points to you.

I must confess, her death is unsettling. Someone on CNN said that addictions are something you can never really be over. You can just be over them only one day at a time. They haven't said how she died but I think everyone is assuming it's going to be something related to drugs.

Apparently, she was seen swimming in the hotel pool a few days earlier and she looked healthy. It could have been heart issues from previous drug use?? In any event, this is tragic and I feel for her daughter and family. 48 is so young...

No cause of death reported yet.

Any bets it was a combination of alcohol and prescription drugs? Rolling Eyes

If you predict BOTH her death and the cause of death in a death pool do you win double the points?

Kind of a no-brainer don't you think?

Did anyone really think that John Candy would die on a canoe trip?

Huh? What's a no-brainer?

Car accident?

Heart Attack?

Assassin?

People die from many reasons. Not all are obvious. Well... except for some people.

I'll reserve my judgment on this one till the coroner's report.

While I don't respect Houston in general...I do respect that she was trying to overcome an addiction...which can be quite difficult (near impossible).

If she suffered a heart attack, or embolism, etc. and drowned, there's not much that could have been done.
If it's found she was laced up on drugs and/or alcohol again though...I have little sympathy...especially if it's ruled a suicide.

Before anyone calls me callous though...I'll say that MILLIONS of people suffer from addictions, depression, and other issues, who don't relapse, don't take their own lives, and find some way to be productive. Houston had the talent, resources and recognition to do some great things for other people...which is why I am holding my judgement.

Not in my pool, since I'm lazy and that would require massive cross-checking everytime someone croaked. It's a lot of work as it is. There are def. other pools that do have this feature in, but they often are cash pools.
