Not sure what your problem is? Sounds like a good business decision, 30cents per coin to 4 to 6 cents per coin... That is a significant savings.

Should be been using that material from the start.

...the cost of changing over will be passed along to consumers. Other than that, what's the big problem for consumers by changing the weight and metal content of coins?

I don't see any real problems, other than making business people have to schedule more work for their staff to change over their equipment.

It's a cost cutting measure that also creates more jobs for vending machine repair businesses, and the gov gets to say "we slashed costs and created jobs all at the same time".
