I follow a radio station or two on some social media.

This one station asked...

"Some
Public Schools in Canada have eliminated an annual school Christmas
celebrations in respect for any other cultures/holidays ...what do you
think? Should Christmas stay in Public Schools or is it right to take it
out to not offend anyone?"

Some of the frustrating replies

"If they don't like our traditions, they can go back to their country."

"We as CANADIAN'S were here in
OUR country first!! It offends me and my family that the people who we
are supposed to be offended are making us change our traditions. If they
do not like it, do not join our schools and society! Stay in your own
counrty. WE ARE CANADIANS!! If us as true Canadians want to stand by our
true Canadian traditions we need to stand up for our true tradition!"

I personally want Christmas to stay in schools. But I also dont have a problem with it being an event that offers the opportunity to celebrate ALL the different religions at the same time. Nothing wrong with helping people to celebrate their faith IMHO, even if you are not of that faith.

HOWEVER, telling people to LEAVE and go back to their country is moronic, what if they were born here? What if they were even christian at one time and then switched religions.. Where are they to go back to?

AND... well the whole we were here first argument... umm.. wow.. really? so Natives dont exist?

There are more important things to eliminate, like hazing. Let's see it eliminated, out of respect for people.

When did Christmas become a bad word? If someone is offended by Christmas then they chose to live in the wrong country. My best friend is Jewish and she isn't at all offended by Christmas. In fact, we spend Christmas with her and her family. IMHO, Christmas is about spending time with those you love, it's about giving not receiving but mostly its for the children to see their eyes light up, it is magical.

Many years ago, the parent committee at my kids school (take note GC) raised the question why there was never a Christmas concert at the school. The principal's response was that the school only got the equipment (stage, sound, lighting) on a rotating basis, and that the timing didn't necessarily coincide with Christmas. So one year, it was our turn and we asked. He had another excuse that it wouldn't be appropriate considering the cultural make up of the school. (East Indian and Filipino)

So, the parent council ran a survey of the parents. Filipinos are primarily Roman Catholic and the East Indians (Sikh) were fine with a Christmas deal. Anyway, it turned out that one of the teachers was Jewish and had been quite vocal in opposition of a Christmas celebration. So, one person was able to put a wrench in the works and the spineless administration allowed it, instead of doing the "right thing".

The Christmas concert was held and everhone enjoyed.

There are times when political correctness is just plain stupid.

political correctness is one thing, demanding people worship Jesus or leave the country is quite another

The moron that made that statement is, well,...a moron. What else can be said?

Such statements are best ignored.

Just out of curiosity, does your Jewish friend have any kids? If yes, does she let them participate in school Christmas plays?

Yes they participated in the Christmas festivities. I grew up with lots of Jewish kids and they all participated in the festivities. IMO, nothing religious about Santa, candy canes or a tree.

Christmas is a social event for many people even those not Christian.

Christmas wouldn't be the event we know today without its Pagan roots. This is something everybody knows about but few want to acknowledge 'cause Christmas is "fun."

Personally, I love Christmas. We have a party at work that we look forward to all year long. People are nicer this time of the year and you can often find some good sales.
