At the MTS Centre.

Tickets not on sale yet.

I'm hoping to go. Made In Japan is one of the all-time great rock albums. Anyone else familiar with it?

Bit different line up than now - useless without Ritchie.

I wouldn't say useless. Also, Jon Lord retired. Ritchie is doing the medieval folk-rock thing and would be not out of place at the Winnipeg Folk Festival.

I'll think about it.

Machine Head was the first record I ever bought with my own money... purchased for $12.99 from Sam the Record Man in 1978. I was five.

I looked at tickets but decided to wait to see if I can get free tickets from work. I ended buying tickets for Roger Waters and money is a little tight at the moment. I may end up caving and buying tickets. LOL

Interesting. Seems as if no one is buying tickets. Row 2 and 3 are easily available.

Its being advertised like crazy. They were giving away tickets at the last Jets game

I know 3 songs by them and thats it and probably all 3 of them would be played near the end of the concert

Tickets are not selling well by the looks of it.

They now have them on sale, buy 2 and get them at a $41 discount. Or something like that.

Just out of curiosity, I checked what were the best available. Floor, Row 7, Seats 17-18. No, I'm not going.

Yeah, I saw that, too. Maybe they would have been better at the Concert Hall, if it was available.

Good show. They played for 115 minutes. Missed lots of good material but that was to be expected. When Howard Mandshein walked on stage to introduce the evening, he pointed hello to me. We go back a while and I run into him several times a year at shows, it seems.

American guitarist Steve Morse was a cheshire cat, constantly grinning all evening while firing up a hurricane of notes. Bassist Roger Glover stood right in front of me tossed several picks in my direction. One for clearly for the guy standing beside me who was fist-pumping and singing a lot. The pick hit our hands and ended up on the floor, behind the barricade. One of the security guys walked over, picked it up and gave it to the intended recipient. Later on, another pick fly my way, this time seemingly for me. It ended up in the same place. The same guy wouldn't retrieve it for me. I figured he didn't want to look for it until the show was over. When it was over, he picked it up and took off with it. No big deal. The guy beside me lucked out again as he caught one of the drum sticks that was flung in our direction.

One of the hallmarks of any Deep Purple performance is their extended
numbers where they jam and improvise. The did that early on, in the
second song and during other periods in the show. Yes, they can still play.

Keyboardist Jon Lord retired a few years ago and is now battling cancer. Don Airey, a veteran of many top British rock bands (Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Whitesnake, Ozzy, etc.) performed a flashy solo in which he played everything from classical to rock'n'roll. Ian Gillan was in the Peg a few years ago with his solo band at Cowboys or some other bar. He looked slim and fit hit some high notes. Drummer Ian Paice is the only guy to have been in the band since the very beginning. He was solid.

Overall, Deep Purple really have nothing left to prove. They've achieved pretty much all that can be achieved in music and will forever be remembered as an influential and unique band whose best days where in their first ten years. If they never play here again, I can at least feel satisfied that I saw them once.
