Can anyone recommend a good family doctor?

I'm in desperate need of a new family doctor.

Our current doctor is a complete dick. My wife has had medical reports from a very respected doctor friend in the US showing calcification in her vertebrae, and we need to be referred to a specialist. Current dick doctor refuses to do so, or at least is taking his sweet time about it. I guess he's pissed that we went elsewhere, and pissed that this doctor found things in the x-rays that he missed.

Can anyone recommend someone good who is taking patients? Please? Pretty please?

Those only one way to send a message to these arrogant a-holes - leave them. Also send a letter of concern to the College which will come to his attention in due course.

Sad thing is...6 months ago, I would've HIGHLY recommended my family doctor.
But 5 months ago, he sent a letter to all his patients telling them he was no longer taking appointments, and that his clinic was going to be 100% "walk-in".

You would THINK doctors would want the opposite...to have regular patients, who make appointments, who he can keep fewer files...

I'd even accept him not taking "new" patients as regulars, and as other patients quit using him (for whatever reason) he didn't take new ones so he could focus more on the walk-ins...

He was a great doctor...but I've lost my respect for him due to that insensitivity.

There's an article in today's news about how the baby boomers and chronic medical conditions are eating up much of doctor's time and energy. It might be your doctor wanted to limit that part of the caseload and just focus on acute problems.

My doctor's office now ONLY books appointments three days in advance. If you want an appointment next week, you have to call closer to next week, period. Apparently that has dramatically reduced their numbers of no-shows, which are significant in any medical practice.

That article is a bunch of bunk.
The ONLY reason I need a "regular" doctor, is to get prescriptions filled that I don't even WANT. That my doctor put me on as "precautionary" based upon my age, weight and OTHER patients problems.

He even sent me to have my heart/cardio tested...which came back better than average for my age/weight/sex...yet STILL put me on medication for it...to help "control" things early.

So...chronic medical conditions are being pushed by the doctors more than the patients...cause most the guys I know only see a doctor if there's either something immediately wrong, or something known wrong.

And as far as no-shows are concerned...THAT'S when the walk-ins should be seeing the docs.

Especially in the current setup of clinics...where I could spend a day going to 4 or 5 different clinics and gather all kinds of prescriptions for "whatever" I can con the doc out of...and then go get a bunch of prescription pain killers and other drugs...just because the docs won't get together and accept a centralized patient database and prescription database.

Eaton Center Medical Centre has a balance of appointments and walk-ins that works extremely well for my purposes.
You can book an appointment or walk-in.
I would walk in for prescription refills, and wait maybe 15 minutes for the next available Doctor. Appointments were always on time, and now when I haven't got an appointment I would phone in to see how long the line up was, have my file put in the walk in category and go down in either 1 or 2 hour , depending on the time frame.
I have been seeing "my Doctor for over 30 years and he sure knows his "stuff'.Dr. Rusen has managed my igh blood pressure, and now is concerned with my blood sugar being too high.
If my memory serves me right he was a really good shot puter in at St. John's High School! lol
P.S.- He has an awesome head of curly grey hair!
