5 of 8 members of the Mayor's enviromental policy advisory committee quit....one reason is lack of cash for research

Sounds to me like politics as usual.

$5000 doesn't do much for a committee though.... and it doesn't sound like the Mayor
was all too serious about the environment....IMHO from reading the
article.

I could be wrong...

yeah $5000 is not alot... but that really depends on what their mandate is.. what kind of research do they think they should be doing exactly?

Was this committee set up for failure?

Or was the committee chair overstepping her mandate?

My hunch is the truth is a little of both, if not completely both. scratch

Would not one of the committee's tasks to be to prepare and budget and submit it to the powers to be for consideration? Maybe the wrong chairperson was in place.....excuse me, delete the maybe.

Seems to me that coming up with a budget and a plan before asking for money would be a wise idea. I nominate Freeman as the next chair of the committee.

Nope, can't do it. The budget wouldn't be big enough for all the graft and corruption I would like to put into place.

Alright, I'm sold... I'll second the nomination after hearing your plan! Very Happy

Why do you need money to talk to people? According to Jenny, you do.

She probably wants to talk to them over a $40. pizza maybe.

Three contractors one from Transcona, one From St Vital and one from The Maples are offering bids to build a new deck for the WRHA.

St Vital guy walks into the office and talks to the manager and bids $1000.
$400 for supplies
$400 for labour
$200 profit

Transcona guy comes in next talks to the manager and bid $799.99
$300 for supplies
$300 for labour
$199.99 for profit

Maples guy walks in, talks to the manager and bids $100,799.99. The manager's eys grow wide and asks, $100,799.99!! why so much? The guy from the maples says.
$50,000 for me
$50,000 for you
and $799.99 for the guy from transcona to do the work

I'd say what the committee needs to do is meet as a team. Decide how they need to manage their mandate. Put a plan together. Determine how much of that plan might be executed by existing city resources. Determine what needs to be outsourced and its' cost.

Then put a budget together. Present it to the mayor/council to seek approval. If approved then and only then will they get any money.

Sure Deank. That nicely illustrates the WRHA value add method. We can all see how that process is beneficial to the WRHA and Manitoba taxpayers.

Remembering of course that most of those members dont get paid to be on that committee.... HOWEVER someone please correct me if I am wrong but when councillors are on committees they do get paid more...

In the real world I was often asked to join committees at work that normally would not require my services. But they wanted other outside opinions. I agreed because that is what you do. I did not ask for more moola.

But that is the real world. Not politics or a bureaucracy.

Seems nowadays 'volunteers' want to get paid...in one form or another. That's really sad.

I see from todays Free Press that City Hall has introduced some green measures. Just the hint of me chairing the green committee has smartened them up.

wait just a god damn minute here.

The article in the freep has mixed recycling at city hall COSTING $50000 per YEAR. Excuse me? How the hell is that possible? I have curb side recycling where I can just put everything in one big box and away it goes to the city depot for sorting. How the hell can mixed recyling cost 50K per year at city hall??????? Is this really an effective use of money? Someone somewhere is ripping us off.
