Manitobans will have a chance to voice their opinions on Senate reform at upcoming public hearings, the province said today........

Can just anyone run? Or do they need to be elected from a group chosen by someone?

In my world, they'd have to be okayed by me first, but in the real world, anyone could run.

And each province should have an equal number of senators. Two, three tops. Except Quebec; they will demand to be MORE equal....

My say on the senate, hmmm, how about "A useless bunch of old fart gasbags that have no useful purpose in our government, other than to consume massive amounts of taxpayers money and further mire hte process in party politics. My vote is to have them stay in the garage while they warm up their cars."

Do you think that's succinct enough?

abolish the listing of parties within the senate
immediate terms for removal if one votes as a "party", or joins any "party" or supports any party in anyway other then their secret ballot during elections.

You mean the mechanics behind enforcing it? Or do you mean how would it help?

I can't see it being enforcable. How can you tell what a person is thinking?

its not what they are thinking JTF. They can have all the liberal or conservative or whatever views and thoughts they want. the people who elect them, will elect them for whatever reason. But they absolutely can NOT be part of a party in anyway or have dealings with that party such that its obvious they are not calling their own shots.

But, practically speaking, it cannot be enforced. If people vote enbloc, how can one tell if it's for a party or just the issue itself.

I may not be a card carrying member of a party, but I can still vote for that party all the time.

Hope you see what I'm getting at. Afterall, we do have a party system here.

I see what you are getting at... I dont disagree it could be an issue. But when the LIBERAL senators help to decide the direction of the LIBERAL party you can see where even the guise of independance has been dropped.

5 senators per province. 2 senators per territory.

All elected by the citizens of said provinces and territories and if Quebec does not like it they can separate from Canada, Take their portion of the federal debt, pay Canada back what they owe us. Print their own money take the small portion of Quebec that is not Crown land and Go begging USA or France for handouts.

That is how I feel.
