1284ish Manitoba Avenue.
A whole wack of homes going up on the old school grounds there. There are a few started. Sell price of 180K... no real yard to speak of.
would you pay 180K for a house there? Maybe earlier this summer before the housing "collapse" but now? Is that maybe a little much right now?

I wouldn't live around there....I did go to Shaughnessy Park for nursery and kindergarten. When my Dad was still in school we lived in Willow Park on Dorset. Seems like forever ago....

not much at all... hell the original property itself was only worth 178K before being subdivided into 10-20 lots...

The sell price is an old price that was quoted when the housing was higher and more advantageous. The developers are willing to reduce the cost of the sale to refelct the economy right now. As far as moving there, maybe, would depend on the finished product. My daughter lives a few blocks west of there and they have not had any problems.

I have heard of a lot of people having problems... and a lot not having problems in that area. Depends who you are maybe? ie.. nice to people and they are nice back?

yeah figured it must be an old price. I have not been back down that street since christmas break.. are the houses actually being worked on right now? It looked like they just stopped working the last few times I went by.. but that was during christmasish.

I would. I support any infill construction in Winnipeg.

Perhaps they could take the same model and build a similar community on the old armed forces base.

so now that we have the floor plans.... and more information...

does this change anyone's mind about living there?

(me personally I thought it would have been a good place to build my uber mansion with a kick ass moat around it, but that was before this development happened )

I was by the other day, I think on Jan 2 and there was a contractors truck there but it still looked as if nothing really was happening. I will be going by tonight when I am at Fred Douglas so will see if there is any more work done. If the houses were bungalows I definately would consider it but they all look to be either 2 stories or bi-levels.

I certainly wouldn't buy a house that looks like the ones one that site.

Seriously. Is Winnipeg incapable of building anything but an ugly stucco split level box?

Where is the siding, front porches, nice windows or other architectural details? Wander through Wolseley or Crescentwood for some design ideas.

Perhaps something like these places. They are new infills built on the old CFB Calgary base.

You don't see too many of those houses in Winnipeg. Or at least I don't remember seeing many of those types of houses in Winnipeg...

Actually they're all single-level starter homes. They might look like 2 stories because the basements are not as deep as they used to put them.

I am a Stoned Wheat Thins kinda gal. The examples from Calgary are brilliant. Our problem here is having the same tired developers.....no innovation, no imagination.....a home in that part of town would have to be pretty GREEN in terms of its design and look pretty cool for me to lay out those sorts of bucks.

They're called 'raised bungalows' which, I believe were formerly known as bi-levels. (Some people objected to the "bi" name I guess) Very Happy
