JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. - A U.S. military jury sentenced an Afghan war veteran to life in prison after the Army staff sergeant was convicted of murder, conspiracy and other charges in the deaths of civilians, in one of the most gruesome cases to emerge from the conflict.



Can someone remind me, why Canadians were there? NORAD??

...a 26 year old Staff Sgt.that was a wacko to begin with should not have been given any command.

Kind of makes you wonder about the checks and balances of the command structures. Sounds like the Canadian Airborne fiasco in Somalia. Where were the crusty old Sergeant Majors to squeeze the heads of these guys before they got out of control?

Really, why not?



SOunds like in both situations, commanders at several levels lost a grip on what they were supposed to be doing and a grip on their soldiers. In these situations, sh1t should actually roll uphill.
