For years now, you can file your taxes online. Should you have the option of being able to vote online?

On the plus side, it might get more people voting. On the down side, there will always be concerns about fraud, tampering, etc.

1 hacking would be too easy
2 parties would set up "voting" booths of their own pretty much forcing votes

a much bektter idea would be election employees going door to door with portable voting booths

That would create a lot of jobs. There is a country that fines you if you do not work, to force all cheapskates out. That would work pretty good in Winnipeg! lol

I would be in favour of voting on line! Anything that gets every one's wants heard! What are we to think when 70% of the young do not want to vote?

Why should our politicians be able to ignore the young peoples wishes because they do not work?

Hey, maybe it is good?

I do not think allowing people to vote on line would increase the number of people who would vote.
Advance polling was open for 7 or 8 days. Polling stations were set up in malls.
How much more convenience to people need?
How many people walked right past these voting stations several times and did not bother to vote?
People needed a reason to vote.
It appeared the choices this year were Spend party 1 or Spend party 2.
If one party would have said we will decrease taxes by 5 percent or we will divert 15 percent of health care dollars from the regional health authorities to FRONT-LINE health care, then there would have been a real reason to vote.
Just my humble opinion anyway.

People needing a reason to vote pretty much nails it. Apathy this year has everything to do with voters not seeing a real reason to change. Both the ndp and the PC campaigns looked identical.

Nope. The NDP campaign defined the PC campaign. imo anyway.

People need a reason to vote? Sure. Although, plenty of people automatically vote a certain way regardless of the issues.

Most of you voted even with campaigns that looked similiar.

Hell, this was supposed to be the year of change in Manitoba provincial politics. People wanted change and most voted for it. A minority voted for same ole, same ole.

Having online voting would give people another choice. Many would still vote in person.

Door to door voting with portable stations? Why not. If they can enumerate you that way, why not let you vote that way. Would cost a bundle, though.

It would take weeks, if not months, to get all the votes in...just like the enumerations.

Perhaps the best way to assure people get out to vote is to give them people and ideas to vote for. Inspire them to vote.

Stop telling obvious lies and re-introduce folks to honesty and integrity.

Does anyone think that Selinger is an honest man of integrity??? I sure don't.

The greens might have done better if the advance polls would have suggested the majority that the NDP got... perhaps people might have felt more okay about taking a risk voting for a green candidate if it hadn't been portrayed as such a close battle between blue and orange.

It was a close battle with the voters as evidenced by the popular vote numbers I thought.

Change the name "Selinger" to that of any polical leader. See if you get a different answer.

In this day and age of information technology we don't really need elected representatives. We could move to a direct democracy model where every household has a polling/information terminal installed and every eligible household member can get informed on any issue and cast a direct vote on every law they care about, or submit proposals for new laws.

No.

This election was disgusting with all the outright lies that the NDP put forward.

He disgraces the title 'Honorable' imo.

What about the green party platform item of:
"Implement a revenue-neutral carbon pricing architecture to modernize
our economy". Build a “Made in Canada” Green economy."
which I lifted out of:
http://greenparty.ca/files/attachments/green-book-2011-en.pdf
It may claim to be "revenue neutral".
But:
1. How long will that last? Can you spell t-a-x.
2. Is that how these new jobs will be created, By creating a huge administration to ensure the "revenue neutrality"
3. Many people are having a hard enough time getting by now. Won't this increase their cost of living.

Not going to happen.

And why the heck would Canada want to implement more price differences from our Southern neighbors?
We are paying more than the Americans for the lots of products now.
Do we want to send more Canadians across the line to do their shopping?
I think the Green platform needs more work if they ever hope to get elected.

My interpretation of the issue.

Consumption taxes make sense, but can we trust any politician to reduce other forms of taxation while increasing consumption taxes?
