I'm not aware of a company that will rent a car without a credit card.

What about Rent a wreck do not think they are as strict with the rules .

Not sure if this applies to Winnipeg, but when I lived in Lethbridge, I rented a car from Enterprise to drive up to Calgary for the weekend. I didn't have a credit card at the time, so I put down a $300 deposit. I was 22 at the time. That was almost 7 years ago. Now you all know my age; now you must die!

Most of them require credit cards now... heh.. how long you need to car for? Does GM still do that 24 horus test drive option?

The credit card is probably for the damages if you do not take their insurance. You might be responsible for $5,000 in damages or more if you have an accident, so when you sign their contract, you are sgreeing to use your card for the damages !

That deposit is taken from credit cards as well, just that it is refunded if everything goes okay. You don't even notice the transaction. You look young for a guy of 59 years of age.
