OTTAWA - A judicial recount of the May 2 vote in an eastern Quebec riding confirms a squeaker of an NDP victory over a Conservative candidate.
New Democrat François Lapointe takes Montmagny–L'Islet–Kamouraska–Rivière du Loup by just nine votes over Bernard Généreux, who’d represented the riding since beating the Bloc Quebecois in a 2009 by-election.
Généreux had only represented the riding since 2009 when he beat the Bloc Quebecois in a by-election.
The recount leaves the Tory government with 166 seats and puts the Official Opposition NDP at 103 seats.
There are still other recounts taking place.
On Monday, the recount begins in Winnipeg North where Liberal incumbent Kevin Lamoreaux beat New Democrat Rebecca Blaikie by just 45 votes.
A recount is also happening in northern Ontario's Nipissing-Timiskaming
riding.
That's where Tory Jay Aspin edged out sitting Liberal MP Anthony Rota by a 15-vote margin.
In Toronto's Etobocoke Centre riding, there's a recount to verify whether
Conservative Ted Opitz beat Liberal incumbent Borys Wrzesnewskyj.
The margin there was just 25 votes.
