What is the objection?
Anything privatized will result in a more efficient running of that program! Canadians earning $20 per hour will find that they are out, and replaced with $10 per hour labour, unless they can get Mexicans in to do the work like they do on manitoba farms in the summer, and then they will pay them less, plus charge them for room and board.
We all know that people working for the Post Office do not deserve to get a living wage, because of their unions!
Those doing garbage delivery for the City, shouldn't have a living wage, and that outside contractors can get 1 person running behind a truck for $10 per hour, as opposed to city employees, 2 at a time meandering behind the truck, smoking dope and drinking!

Yes, they should. Government is not in the business of competing with the private sector. Their job is to provide the services which are necessary for the good of the population which the private sector can not., ie police, fire, water, refuse, defence.

Besides, when the mint goes private, how much will be paid to the various levels of government in taxes of all different shapes and sizes.

Name me one privatization of a former crown corporation that has actually worked in Canada without there being enormous grey areas of it being sold. Just one.

So, how do you put a price tag on a crown corporation? Usually what happens when a crown is sold off, is the buyer ends up getting a sweetheart deal and the public gets the shaft.

Government is not in the business of making profit, they just aren't any good at it, so why should they even try. Let the private sector take care of "business" and let government "govern".

That's fine by me, but don't let the government/taxpayer build up a crown, investing tons of money in it over decades just to sell it off to business for a fraction of what it's worth or what has been invested in it. If your going to do that, than as a tax payer I want what it's worth on the open market or I'll keep it myself.

My point exactly, a business would not get into a venture that is not part of their plan, nor would they sell it below FMV. Thats why government should not be in business.

Case in point... Manfor pulp mill in The Pas.. sold to Repap for $1. included in sale... millions of dollars to enhance and repair the roads.... millions of acres of rights to northern forests... guarentee that they will stay around??? ZERO...

ONE FREAKIN DOLLAR and no job gaurentees or anything.. this at a time when Manfor was making some serious money.
