So far, this election, I've had 4 signs taken from my front yard.

I found one down the alley the next day.

In all the years that I can recall, I've only had one sign go missing in the past.

WTF is going on out there? Is someone that desperate?

Anyone else having problems?

(btw I'm supporting Joyce Bateman)

Hard to say who is doing those things. I've seen some real childish behaviour across all political stripes. So nothing surprises me.

BTW... Does anyone believe that the presence of a sign in a yard will influence the vote of a neighbour or passer-by?

Placing a sign in a yard kinda' confirms the vote. That's the primary reason for putting them up.

At the beginning of a campaign a bunch of signs go out to the regulars. Signs going up after that first splurge are sign requests done by the phone canvassers...a sign of growth.

That's how the story goes anyhoo.

I bet you don't see too many old codger Conservatives running around at night stealing signs, but I could be wrong.

BTW, down the street there were Green and Liberal signs left. Just sayin.

"Placing a sign in a yard kinda' confirms the vote. That's the primary reason for putting them up."

Not even close to confirming a vote.

depends. Some people actually vote based on how many signs they see.

Also, some more respected people will have an influence on a neighbour.

But just a general passerby who is not stupid enough to vote on number of signs and that does not know you? No.. that sign will have no impact on them.

As to stolen signs. Could be wind.. could just be kids...but yes some people are moronic enough to think stealing a sign will have some sort of impact.

working far too many of my own and other people's campaigns.

there are many people who just want every sign to feel special, some who want every sign just to help the political process and some who just agree to take a sign to get you to piss off.

not since i moved here...but the sign issue is just as big in the US during elections.

at one place i lived though...i would almost daily get someone knocking on my door asking if they could put their sign in my lawn.

it seemed to get more common AFTER the first sign went up...and now the opposing candidates had their people knocking trying to replace the sign.

I had a Republican candidate's sign in the lawn...and a Democrat came knocking...so I said "sure...put your sign up." He started to take down the Republican sign and I yelled out..."No...leave that one...you put yours right next to it".

By the end of the week I had about 12 signs out there, from 4 different parties.

Despite being able to vote...I didn't even go to the polls.
Yet I'm sure each of those candidates believed they had secured my vote because their sign was on my lawn.

I've never seen anyone running around at night stealing signs. But no one here believes dirty tricks are the exclusive domain of one party.

On my street they sure are...perhaps not anything to do with the party but it does go to the mindset of the individuals stealing signs selectively.

I spent a few hours last evening in my riding replacing about 15 signs that were either destroyed or went missing.

In 40 odd years that I've been involved in politics, this year has been the absolute worst for missing signs.

Says a lot imo...and nothing good.

Must be the neighbourhood you live in. anita is likely collecting the signs for the wood. Perhaps she feels she'll need something with which to heat her house once booted from office...

They're missing in Tuxedo, River Heights, Ft. Garry as well as Osborne Village.

Yup. Must be the wind neighbourhood.
