Looks like there was a great turnout on Friday for the first day of advance voting. Seems even Good Friday could not dampen Canadians desire to vote.

There was a little bit of controversy though from the Catholic church about running these polls on a religious holiday.

Is this somewhat pompous of the church? Should the Catholic church limit Canadians desire to attend and vote? What about those that don't share the same beliefs or are atheist or agnostic?

We just finished voting at Villa Cabrini.
There was about a 15 minute line-up.

They said yesterday was very, very busy. They didn't get out til after 10pm.

I think the problem with the Catholic Church was some of the polls are scheduled for the basement halls of the church and they see that as an issue for the religious services that were held on Good Friday. I don't think the church has any issue with the advance polling being on the holiday just the locations.

Its too bad they did not save a billion of the money they spent on the G20 so they can spend it on what was important to the average Canadian. Like having more polls open for the election.
If it cost them the election, it would serve them right.

The coalition might have triggered the election.
But WHO controls the purse strings when the vote is actually going on? When there were more people voting in advance on Friday than they anticipated, they should have called more people into to work for Saturday.

You're kidding right? You are blaming the conservatives?

Elections Canada is responsible.
Elections Canada is the independent, non-partisan agency responsible for conducting federal elections and referendums. http://www.elections.ca/home.aspx

Heh, I voted in the advance poll for the last civic election. I was in and out in minutes. Largely because it had sooooo many people staffed at that location. Should we blame sammy for over-staffing the advance poll? Or maybe that was the conservatives fault too?

I thought the topic was about the Federal election.
My apologies.

That darn evil Harper government - are they undermining the voting process now? Iggy should have time to film a TV commercial and capitalize on this. I'm sure lots of people would like to believe it.

"Harper - stopping Canadian's from voting."
