Coaches, player rapped

Suspensions handed out following violent hit, melee

"We can't and won't tolerate that kind of behaviour," Davis said.
Davis gave Enns, one of the most penalized players during the playoffs, a 40-game suspension that will start at the beginning of the regular season in the fall.

Can you imagine how quickly head shots, hitting from behind would stop, if a professional player was suspended for 20 games, and at a $2,000,000 salary it cost hin $500,000 in lost pay?
I guess we will never see that happen?

So, a blatant hit from behind, with seconds left in a game they are about to lose, with obvious intent (he came from the other side of the ice) and this guy doesn't even get a season off.

Boy, those guys are sure taking a tough stance. Hockey Violence- manitoba Junior League Suspends Player 40 Games 886966

Not sure anyone would choose to put him on their roster if it meant losing 66% of a season.

Perhaps, but still...time for the league to grow some.

Agreed. Entire season would have been a good thing. If not a long suspension. Criminal charges should be laid in this case me thinks.

Perhaps if the young man in question was not already one of the most penalized players in the playoffs. Perhaps then a 40 game suspension would be in order. But past conduct clearing shows he is not learning his lesson.

Heh...he wants to make the Big Leagues as a goon perhaps.

NYI has an opening.

Talk about a scene directly out of Slapshot.

I dont think anyone will touch him after that.

But, its still not the point. If the league wants to be tough, less than a season suspension isn't showing it, especially if, as you say, he has a history of this crap.

i was referring to the big leagues... I just cant see him being taken on by anyone.

and agree he should have received at a minimum an entire season. AND more importantly criminal charges should be laid.

There will come a day when one of the "tough guy" morons gets charges AND convicted. Start with the icewhole from the Islanders. He, and the league(s), need a strong lesson.

Who fom Crosbey's City will be the 1st to start a class-action lawsuit for all season ticket holders requesting a 20% refund , because Crosby isn't playing?
Tat might get the owners attention if they have to caugh up a $4,000,000 rebate because their #1 player is off healing because of a cheap head shot!

I seem to remember the time when if you touched Edmonton's key player, you would have 10 guys jumping on you!
He was the Franchise, and he was off limits.
What was his name? Gretsky??

Seem to remember a player named Bertuzzi who was charged criminally. Not much came of that, he still ended up playing in the league for another team (the player he hit never returned). I agree, head shots need to be outlawed but the fines and suspensions should be dealt with within the game and the league and leave the court system out of it. If this happened in the NHL then you would see all of the sports taking the stance that if someone does something "criminal" then lets go to court. What about a pitcher in the majors who intentionally throws a 100+mph pitch at the batter's head??? He is thrown out of the game, given xx games suspensions and fined $xxxxx for the attack but never brought up on criminal charges. Just my thoughts, I happen to be an "old time" hockey fan where a great game has a "Gordie Howe" hat trick (a goal, an assist and a fight).

Hence the "AND convicted" part.

Bertuzzi is still playing BTW, for Detroit.
