What is it with this discolored yellow water that I am seeing when I have been bathing these past couple of days?

It's not from me peeing in the bathtub...

Is the City, or that private globalized firm putting some sort of chemicals in the water to depopulate us?

Another conspiracy? What private firm do you speak of? We want to accuse someone despite the fact there is no private company involved as yet?

We had brown water last summer.

Of course, we had a load of whites in the wash.

I complained through 311 but till haven't heard back from them.

I haven't noticed any water colour, clarity, or smell issues since the new water treatment plant came online.

In fact, it's been fantastic!

And I change out approximately 200-250 gallons from my aquariums every week...

if you have yellow water in the winter time it generally means a water main break nearby. City might not even be aware of it as it could just be spraying all over underground creating a massive sinkhole

That's what I was told by the city when I complained about my brown water problem. They said they were repairing the sewers somewhere nearby.

The bastards should warn people that will be affected BEFORE they start work.

Common problem when you live in old neighbourhoods with 100+ year old water mains.

Which we don't have money to fix eh.....but lots of money for museums and stadiums. Convoluted thinking imo.

Yeah, lots of $ for museums and stadium sn that most don't want - bread and circuses. But none for basic life survival.

It used to be brown/rust coloured before the water treatment plant.

Lots of water pipes were replaced with the turquoise coloured PVC pipes in the 1990s around here, so I don't know where this is coming from. That's why I'm starting to cry conspiracy...But perhaps someplace else between the Deacon reservoir and my home there are copper pipes.

I'm in the southeast corner of downtown.

OK, here's a question then...What is the estimate for replacing ALL of Winnipeg's OLD copper water pipes in the old neighbourhoods, and what is the estimated cost?

So what? Why can't Winnipeg have something nice?

That's what some of us want...a nice sewer and water system. Smile

So then they fix the sewers and people complain about the roads, or lack of police, underfunded community centres or who knows what.

There should be a balance.

As for the sewer and water system. It isn't exactly a fast fix. Most repairs or refurbishments are several months in duration and result in major road closures.

I'd be happy if we could at least fix the problem whereby every time it rains, we dump raw, untreated sewage into the river!

Can we at the very least fix this problem? It makes us look like impotent chumps when it comes to how we treat our resources, such as our precious waterways.

As bad as it is to dump raw sewage into the river it does not happen every time it rains. It happens too often but not every time.

well... its not supposed to happen every time it rains.. but it was fairly close to every time it rained this most recent summer. And I seem to recall it raining quite a fair amount.

I think it is due to a) antiquated sewers (those that collect sanitary sewage and storm-water runoff in a single pipe system) and 2) human "error" at the pumping stations.

Has the province not already mandated a fix and are they contributing to the cost?

they mandated that we lower our phosphorous and nitrogen in the regular sewer and are not providing much funding for that at all.

Thanks for clarifying my exaggeration...that is what I meant.

It's the combined sewer, which collects both rainwater and household sewage in the same system.
