Unions battle each other
By WINNIPEG SUN
Two unions are doing battle at the bargaining table over contract demands of 10 administrators and labour relations officers, who are threatening to walk off their jobs.
The 10 Winnipeg-based staffers are members of the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union of Canada. They are in a dispute with their employer, the Manitoba Association of Health Care Professionals (MAHCP), over pay and benefits such as prescription drug coverage.
The MAHCP employees have voted in favour of going on strike, a move that would leave the health-care workers without much representation in the event of any labour troubles of their own. However, bargaining is continuing with a provincial conciliator and the next round of talks is slated for Nov. 22.
No strike date was announced.
