Two women are suing Canada’s public broadcaster and a Winnipeg activist over a news story about alleged drug activity at a North Point Douglas duplex.
The women, Sandra Guiboche and Amanda Rouse, claim the television report and defendants’ actions defamed them, violated their privacy and resulted in a loss of business income and profits.
Guiboche and Rouse co-own S&M Demo and Reno.
They filed a statement of claim against the CBC and activist Sel Burrows, who was interviewed in the news report, in Winnipeg’s Court of Queen’s Bench this past week.
Guiboche claims the story erroneously implied she was involved in drug trafficking and was an active member in an organized crime family “that was the scourge of the neighbourhood in Point Douglas,” according to documents.
