I wish there was a DB that had the tatoo numbers and if people wanted a public contact number. This business of "secracy" when a pet is concerned is ridiculous

I'd be interested to know just how effective the tatts are in rejoining pets and people.

We had a cat that used to sneak out and wander off for days. She always returned on her own or as a result of posters that we put up in our neighbourhood....never because of her tattoo. Just say'n.

Is that just a money grab...like tree banding??

My dog has both a tattoo and a chip. I'll pay to improve my chances of her being returned should she ever become lost.

My cats have neither! Yikes. I suppose I justify that by saying they are full-time indoor cats.

Oh, don't get me wrong...anything to improve the chances of getting a pet back is a good thing imo, but I was just commenting on my personal experiences with them.

Dean has a great idea in having a database for tatts that is easily accessable to the general public 24/7.

And it'll probably only cost two billion dollars. That's what databases cost these days no?

There is a system up and running that this could be added to, to keep the cost down. The infrastructure is almost completed - the GUN REGISTRY!
I think that the chip in the ear can be accessed by all? pet doctors! All you have to do is cut the ear off and take it to the veteranarian!
Just try and get the right ear, as it would be a shame to take the wrong one in!

Big difference between gun owners and pet owners though. Pet owners would participate willingly...and even pay for it themselves most probably.

That sounds like a twist on The Department of Fisheries' fish tagging program, that has you send in the microchip tags from any catches you make by plying them out of the dead fishies' noses. You know you have the right fish if it has had it's adipose fin clipped.

Maybe we could clip an ear off a cat to signify it has a chip and is safe to scan by anyone in the public?

/mind is a scary place
