accident on route 90 this morning has it closed off.

When I left for work the cops were parked at the northbound leg of egesz blocking traffic from heading north... and routing it down Egesz... a very narrow residential street. IF they had a brain they would block it off at the south bound leg of egesz or even at selkirk. But as it is...man.. its going to get bad. I hope some kid going to school dont get run over because of their stupidity.

Where the hell are our cadets that should be there directing traffic? What hours do those cadets work?

The accident was at 3:30am apparently. I've never understood why they need to keep streets closed for hours on end. Take pictures. Hook the car up. Open the road to traffic.

Which is to say get the frick outta the way...

yeah,.. and somehow they never issued a press release until 610am?

Crazy, I understand wanting sunlight to aid the investigation but man.. thats wacked.

seems someone disagrees with those who are faulting the cops for their response on this.

And the comment about this road needing to be twinned??? What planet are these people on? Possibility to be considered, this accident happened in an industrial/trucking area, fast car, parked semi, middle of the night (3AM approximately) so it may have been no one saw the accident or came upon the scene for a period of time. If there were no witnesses to this, that is why it takes that much longer to reconstruct the accident scene.

true enough, still though...

traffic is still closed and there are hundreds of cars driving past my house... my road is not too bad. But that one end of egesz is crazy narrow.

Having lived many years in Toronto I can assure you they are no faster at clearing an accident scene then are WPS unless they've improved since 2006...

I see no need to reconstruct the accident scene if hundreds or thousands of people are inconvenienced by a road closure and detours. Take pictures. Clean up. Move along.

I don't disagree that the choice of re-routing traffic down narrow residential streets is stoopid to say the least, and yeah they should have closed the whole section from Inkster to Selkirk or re-routed people towards the airport/Brookside cemetery, away from the residential area so that there isn't any potential for more accidents.
If the road is still closed I am wondering if it was more than just a bad accident - by reports in the Sun, alcohol was involved and there also was a passenger who was seriously injured.

they almost definitely want to cross all the i's and dot all the t's for charges that need to be laid. But geez.. videotape every square inch and move on.

If you had a loved one who was killed or badly injured by someone who was drunk driving/reckless/speeding in a stolen vehicle/etc.... and the guy got off on a technicality (or even never gets caught) because the police didn't gather evidence properly, you might feel differently. You think they block off the area for laughs? They need that time and space to do their job properly.

no one said it was for laughs.

No other area of the planet takes that long to investigate an accident like that.

12 freakin hours!

Our cops aren't the fastest elevators in town I reckon.

To close the street for 12 hours suggests a hellava lot of things to me, none of which are good.

I drove past it yesterday on my way to work, I drove to it again today before work. A spectacular accident. That car was literally flying.
