I noticed that every night there seem to be more news items on CBC's nightly newscast about natives. The frequency seems to be growing. Not all stories are about crime. Most are about the needs of that community. I sense the CBC exposure is hugely disproportionate to the population. What is driving this?

Some of it is the new generation that are really showing what Canada has allowed to happen and how change is happening despite it . More and more of the young natives are tired of being viewed as drunks and welfare bums , have been seeing this in many of the youth I consul at Knowles.

It is time for Canada to demand the end of the reserve system and truly make all equal in this great country. As one young lawyer of native descent told me we do now or the trouble will not be worth not doing it the young will only be held down so long .

Didn't the last census say that manitoba's aboriginals were one of the fastest growing groups in the province? Seems like that warrants more news space than before just on that alone.

None of you posters seem to really understand anything about most of the "aboriginal problem"!
Most aboriginals are 100% O.K.!

The problem is with the ones that go to live in the Northend!
It is the Northend that is the problem, and it is contagious!

I know, because I lived there and barely was able to escape!
I am on Wellington Crescent, but am very worried about having a recurrence of "NORTHEND"!!

Perhaps northender will save the Northend. And eliminate any worries about a recurrence of the Northend on Wellington.

Well it is almost 6 months since we were trashing the aboriginals for living where the "white man" sent them, with the assurance that they would be looked after for the rest of their lives!
I have noticed a decided improvement in the way Martin and now harper have been addressing their problems. Lots of more money to try and make their lives better. Better housing, education, and employment opportunities.
Moving forward to settle the 10,000 land claims!
