"The comparison helps frame the scale of the crisis, which the prime
minister said Monday was the worst in Pakistan's history. It has
overwhelmed the government, generating widespread anger from flood
victims who have complained that aid is not reaching them quickly enough
or at all.
"

why is it that everyone impacted by major disasters immediately starts complaining about not getting Aid FAST ENOUGH? No thought to emergency preparedness?

frustrating. Maybe NO AID WILL COME.. would that be better?

Easy for you to say from your presumably not-devastated living situation where you have access to food and water for your family. If you had no means of proving anything at all to your family and were panicked and worried about basic survival, you might complain too. dont you just hate it when people complain? Icon_rolleyes

I doubt I would have the time to complain that my government is not helping me. I would be too busy trying to survive.

That reporter that asks me, whats up dude? He would be attacked for his supplies and not be able to report on it Smile

One "has to complain", in some cases if you want changes!
Take my thumbs up/down" campaign! i am sure that many of you have been P.M.'ing G.O.M., to urge him to get these 2 great features of "The Sandbox" back up and working, and without any silly 20 second rule, so that our beloved sandbox doesn't lose the 16 posters that want this feature back on!

On aid - the one issue I have a hard time getting over is the always "unaccounted for" aid. I read somewhere that much of the African aid over the years bought palace's and other such things. IMO aid should go directly to organizations like Central Mennonite and not transfers of billions from one country to the next. That change is already happening - governments aren't so quick to transfer a billion unconditionally.

I guess that would be the flip side of the promised-in-the-media aid where the real amounts provided are less or not as immediate as promised. I've read about that happening too.

Canada already is providing aid through agencies! They have learnt that the ones in power tend to profit from aid flowing in, and it doesn't matter who is doing what, there are local taxes to get the stuff into the country, that goes to the "government"!
