Government poll suggests crime not a big issue despite Tory get-tough agenda

What would your expectations be when reading this headline? Here is the actual poll. Would you conclude crime is not a big issue?

Poll question: Which issue do you think the federal government should focus on most?

  • The economy 29%
  • Health care 18%
  • The environment 12%
  • Taxes 8%
  • Crime 27%
  • Other 2%

What reason would the Winnipeg Free Press have to write that headline?

It was implied the poll was junk. I'll leave that to the statisticians. What is junk is the Free Press headline: "Government poll suggests crime not a big issue despite Tory get-tough agenda"

How agenda-driven is that? 27% of the respondents believe crime is very much an issue, second only to the economy at 29%. The difference? TWO whole points?

So yes, crime is very important to Canadians and to suggest otherwise is foolhardy. Oh, and politically driven.

You guys have no idea about statistics reports, do you? I took ststistics 45 years ago, so I am an expert at interpretting results, and the point of the matter is the government only looks at the 1st 3 that are important, and that is
Economy- 29%
Health Care- 18%
Environment- 12%

Why would they look at something farther down the list? What is the matter with you forum people? no common sense?

P.M. to G.O.M. and other moderators- yesterday I didn't get time to post, can you fix it so I get double the Thumbs /Up for today??

My second post (https://kwdc.forumotion.com/politics-f16/is-this-a-misleading-headline-t5637.htm#110529) was my comment that I posted in their comments section. That was two hours ago. Will the Free Press censors allow it???

no no no

people you are not listening

"Government poll suggests crime not a big issue despite Tory get-tough agenda"

is the result of a GOVERNMENT poll earlier in the year and is what the article is based on. THEN the freep posted their own poll. The results of which show crime is in fact a high priority item amongst the people that voted.

Two different polls people.

Checked it out. No list of questions asked nor numbers or anything else of any value. This was not a poll.

I guess one can extrapolate the results in a number of ways. If we think of the lack of concern around crime can we assume Canadians are pleased with how the government of the day has handled that issue?

Of course.

We can also assume it is not top of mind for the average Canadian right now.

And we can take issue that the Government of the day is dismissing the average Canadians' apathy for crime and plug away with their anti-crime initiatives.

Pish posh me thinks. Much ado about nothing.

As I understand it, "Focus Groups", which is being referenced here I believe, give accurate results too.

People from various backgrounds are selected, etc. with lots of blah blah that is professionally run and, consequently, their conclusions have merit imo.
