Finally, a politician with a moral compass has brought international attention to the scheme of intersection cameras and their unfair, dangerous abuse of the public. Look for this story to break locally next week in the Free Press. One of the speakers in the videos - Rep. Barry Loudermilk - is the individual who WiseUpWinnipeg brought to Winnipeg in March. He will be back soon, as we continue to press the issue locally.

I think there is a candidate for mayor that is running who is well known for opposing these cameras. nancy thomas.... i think i may have misspelled her last name.

that'll probably be her major campaign issue if im not mistaken.

Very telling indeed.

I think Winnipeg politicos have their heads buried so deep up their a$$es they can't see where they've actually created a problem that did not exist before and exists now solely because the cameras are cash cows. Even Chief Pompadour acknowledges this.

BTW jtf, thanks for the pompadour name - so fitting...

Nancy is the Executive Director of the Road Safety Awareness Group. They've also been attempting to raise this issue with sleeping politicians. I know Nancy and she's ask for our assistance in her campaign including on the facts of this issue.

Thanks for that Grumpy however I'm more effective on this side of things. I'll be active in two civic camapigns with the goal being to defeat those two useless sitters.

Freepressreader. That will be one of her platform issues but she won't be a one-issue fringe candidate. That issue could be pushed to the top of the agenda once Winnipegers are widely made aware of the dirty facts that the city has been suppressing in favour of the empty rhetoric of their propaganda campaign.

Prior to reading your post Rosey - I voted in your poll - selecting Why Not? But you know how summers are - the mods can't consider or make system changes until September. After they have a few high-level meetings - I think you have a decent chance. If you need to thumbs down people in the meantime- why not write "Thumbs Down"? Or is it all about the anonymity of downing peeps?

G.O.M.- took my confidential, sworn to secrecy statement, while we were out for breakfast the other day, and made some dastardly changes to thwart my thumbs up for the "new girls" on the block!
I feel stabbed in the heart, and it is tearing me up, beause we have another day tomorrow that I know I will be forced to go to the "other side", where they have nothing to offer me, because if i say "blond bimbo" I get a warning and an immediate irate phone call from MizPoint!
Life is so difficult these days. I am not sure I can handle the stress and keep thinking on ending it all with either the 40 oxycontrin pills or a visit to A&W for a grandpa cheeseburger, onion rings and a large root beer! lol
G.O.M.- I think I know where you live! This is your last warning! You cannot count on my good- humour too much longer! lol

Rosey I'd go with the A&W option. In fact hit KFC an hour later as the finale. My guess is that you'll fall asleep at the wheel before you get home and then forget the whole plan.

Jondo, don't you think she'll come off as a crazy person if she starts to point out corruption or accusations against photo radar and the people involved?

I think that's the been the fear of most including the media. The upcoming expose will change that. The facts will not have changed - just the level of public awareness needed to overcome their successful propaganda.

Some ex-pigs from Admontun sold some current-pigs from Winnipeg an idea which included numbers* pulled directly outta' the formers' asses.

The current pigs have some 'splainin' to do eh?

* remember the crap about the income expectations and the split of revenue?

We need to get the decision-makers in a room and not allow them to wiggle out of the tough questions. Chief Pompadour, sammy and selinger need to tell us, nay prove to us, with hard facts not fanciful rhetoric, how our safety is protected by this scam.

Yes you are correct Grumpy. In fact - the city's conditional authourity to operate the scam is contingent on they having to do just that - annually. Kind of a biggie for them to ignore - and also receive the cooperation of the prov. gov't in doing so (ignoring it). A full inquiry is needed - and warranted. Is it any surprise why all are ducking the facts on safety? Legal action would see the return of all monies gained by this known scheme going back to the early years.

I'm dissappointed that McFayden hasn't looked into this.

Why the hell doesn't he hold the Province accountable for their part (thus allowing him to get into a city issue)?

Hell, same with the new stadium deal. He whimpered a bit then shut 'er down it seems.

Maybe it's just the season and he'll wait til school's back in session.

McFadyen must be an innocuous placeholder. His invisibility is completely mystifying.

Exactly this is what may make it a non-issue. Very few people know about it and even fewer care. Not big enough to even mention for an election.

I find that to be a strange view. If you watched the video's demonstrating the resultant and known dangers of their profit driven actions (despite claims to the contrary)- and are not troubled by the clear abuse of the public - then you are already dead and just don't know it. And you should be concerned as to why so few people know the facts (therefore "don't care"). Watch public sentiment properly change when the suppression of fact ends with the Free Press expose.

Jondo, I think the photo radar thing would be a good platform if you could sit everyone down and show them the facts. Or make them watch an exposee vid, but that's not gonna happen. Most voters don't follow the news I think. Most people will take the view "dont run red lights or speed" and you won't be caught, stop complaining.
Secondly she might not be the only candidate to say she'll abolish them.
I think it's a good platform to say she'll take the cameras out, but it comes off as a fringe candidate kind of idea. Or a candidate being supported by a bunch of bad drivers that got tickets. Reminds me of Marianne Cerilli and her crazy feminist views.... although she did get lots of votes from the left/NDP rallying behind her.
Jondo, what position do you have in her campaign? And when will she be rolling out the campaign, September? What do you think her chances are?

If this was a problem that affected many people it could be an electio issue. But even if it was just a money grab, the funds don't evaporate into the deep pocket of some CEO but would eventually be used to fight real crime, so one could consider it a public benefit rather than a nuisance.

Troll you know nothing of the facts. ACS is a foreign-owned corporation that has taken many millions from good drivers in Winnipeg. Don't overlook those two points. Strange that you don't seem to be concerned that one second increases safety by 75% and at the cost of zero. Not to mention saving good drivers from handing millions of their wages to the scheme of a foreign corporation. Or having issue with your elected representatives who continue to endorse it while concealing the facts from you. Is there really anything left to say?

This ACS?

EDMONTON -- Charges linked to an Edmonton police photo radar contract won't stop the city from using the technology, Coun. Mike Nickel said Saturday.
The RCMP has charged Edmonton police officers Det. Tom Bell and Staff Sgt. Kerry Nisbett with breach of trust and accepting secret commissions.
Affiliated Computer Systems of Dallas and its Canadian subsidiary, ACS Public Sector Solutions, were charged with offering secret commissions.
ACS was awarded a $90-million, untendered 20-year contract with Edmonton for photo radar services.
The contract was later revoked by the city.
