I just saw the report on CBC....yes, they were settled to the tune of millions. The present conditions at Easterville have nothing to do with lack of money but once again from corruption at the local Tribal Council level. I was chairing a women's gathering in Flin Flon back in the late 80's, a gathering that was a celebration of a northern communications initiative for women in remote communities.....a delegation from Easterville, not on the agenda, approached me asking for permission to bring forth their concerns.....after a short break whereby I got to chat with them they were invited to address the crowd and what a set of stories they had to tell.

I will not get into those issues as I am sure many of you can guess.....monies squandered, whistle blowers threatened with death and tossed out of their rez homes....all sorts of f**kery and supported via INAC and our tax dollars.

Money is not the issue here but more rather mismanagement and because First Nations are a federal rather than a provincial concern who the hell is Selinger kidding? Get real Greg. You wanna do something right then start by getting the rest of the Premieres and the Grand Chief together and go after Ottawa to abolish INAC and the attendant moribund bureaucratic structures that only serve to keep an elite in money.

There is the problem Pavolo.....the Premieres need to work with Atlee and Atlee needs to work with the Premieres.....what is so wrong with that? Or is that just beneath certain folks? United we stand, divided we fall and this is one nation comprising much diversity. Government however, feds, loves the divide and conquer scenario.....Create a society within a society and what do you have? Thus far, one big clusterf**k.

I like the new Grand Chief.....he is far better, I believe the best.....and as to the corruption well Pav if they know about it within their own goddamned community then why can it not be stopped? Clean up the messes in your back yard before criticizing and blaming the rest of us for the shite.

They certainly do know. I think the issue is they don't ever seem to do anything about it. The same corrupt chiefs keep getting elected. And if not reelected they engage in dirty tricks.

Let's leave other politicians out of the discussion for the moment as they are not germane to to this specific debate.

How should the leaders solve the corruption? What is their plan?

Rewriting the Indian Act sections regarding elections and renaming it to a binding document . Also to look at reducing their own level of infrastructure their is more but it is being kept quiet for now .

If you do not know the answers to your questions then you really do not understand the problem . There are reasons and no I will not get into it with you because no matter what any one tells you, you know better and that is why you need the answers to your questions . Miz I will not be trolled into this as it is useless trying to discuss it reasonably with you . And it is a small minority blaming the rest of us, case you havent noticed .

Hydro is Provincial, so why Ottawa?

Is Selinger for this so that it will lessen the provincial financial hit?

I just spent a few weeks in Osoyoos. The Indian region run by the great Chief Clarence Louie. What a difference between that region and Wpg. I didn't see one indian the whole time who was obviously out of his/her mind on the street. Why? Because they had jobs. Where? At every single place that we frequented. They owned (and worked at) the golf course, the RV park, the beach, the Winery, the market, the service stations, fruit orchards, the marina etc. etc.
I asked one young native server one day if Chief Louie was still around and she answered "nobody will get him out of here - look what he's done for us". It staggers me why these so-called "leaders" in Manitoba claim to "lead" their people by sitting on their hands and asking for yet more "funding" - as though that is their job. Not a bad gig for $300,000 tax-free - if you can get it. They should start doing something in the direction of working and jobs. Why are indians not building their own houses at the very least? That's an industry right there - with no end of funding in site - if they wanted to actually work, as endlessly claimed in platitudes. Seems it's easier to demand more houses - and we keep delivering. It's a bloody disgrace and one that needs a thorough audit. The biggest service that can be done for this entitled segment of our one society is to sever permanent funding. With that would come a life. A real one.
People are tired of this nonsense and it will end one day with a huge reality "cheque" (which will bounce one day).

Because the links given have not been or taken the time to read them and this is a real easy one to solve it is called ownership and something called a treaty , do the reaserch and then tell me to get off the pot. Nor am I dismissing anyone any worse then that which has been given, so do not talk to me about that .

I refuse to read a link to a web site without reference to a specific page or story. Who has time for that. That's like me posting a link to the GM website when you ask for a reference about a 1958 Firebird III.

I want to read and learn about issues that perhaps I've not got a real great understanding of. You have an opportunity here to help not only me. Instead you choose not to. That says to me maybe you don't have a horse in the race.
