So the head honcho of Stats Canada takes his database and goes home because the government (his employer) has changed the rules behind the dreaded "long" form. So, why does anyone, other than the CBC, the Liberals and the NDP really give a rats ass about it.

apparently the bank of Canada cares and is reviewing if they will have to buy data elsewhere.

So, because the Bank of Canada wants it, I have to, under penalty of jail, fill out one of those fricking "long" forms? I don't even have an account with them. The census debate makes no sensus to me?? Icon_smile

Well, thats probably more information than I needed, but I guess it just goes to prove that size does matter. The census debate makes no sensus to me?? Icon_smile

This will split the country!
That is what George Diefenbacher said about the flag issue a few months ago! lol
Why is it only the opposition parties getting upset?
Who cares? is it because the Conservatives are looking bad because we are finding out that crime is down? Up? Sideways?

It was reported that the Bank of Canada doesn't use the raw data but will be looking at how this affects it.

Shouldn't that be ...how it doesn't affect it?

Shouldn't that actually be......

Nothing...

we should not know even that they are looking into the data issue until such time as they have actually done a review and made a decision one way or the other?

Me thinks whoever made this announcement should be terminated with cause. Pretty sure its not part of the BoC mandate to interfere in politics.

Lots of people use this data , for a multitude of reasons and this will just make it harder to come by . But trust Mr Personalty to cut it .

Thats how you make a decision political. Afterall, aren't all government decisions political. Why can't you just disagree and state your case without blaming everything on Harper? Typical left wing tactics, make it personal. What crap.

Pretty much every party makes unpopular decisions. That is what we elected them to do.

There may well be good and valued information coming out of the census. I don't know if it is necessary anymore. I don't care. If the folks we've put in place believe we need it then let's continue to collect it. If the census folks believe it must be mandatory then so be it. That is what the government put in place many moons ago.

So now that it is contentious let's discuss it and make a decision.

Harper's Conservatives are cutting the "fat" from previous budgets, and have decided to cut the long census form! Why would anyone care, or question what they are doing?
They have to cut $55,000,0000,000 BILLION, from the expenses to get back into a break even spending habit!
I believe in the Conservatives, and every one's squacking is just that!

I am glad its gone.

As far as I'm concerned they can get rid of the entire census. It just wastes my tax dollars. The government can get all the similar info from the S.I.N. application form, the Birth registration form, and the Marriage registration/licence.

I think the Government should go one step further and eliminate other stupid departments, and no longer useful crown corps. Canada Post, Via Rail, AECL, CBC-Radio Canada, etc... sell them and use the money to buy a few Nuclear powered Ice Cutters and Subs.

". Canada Post"

not really a crown corp(ish) any more

or should I say.. they actually make money for the us now.. no longer a cost

I think Canada Post is losing money and it is a Crown Corp.
In Great Britain the government is doing the same and no outcry! In Canada all we have is the negative nanny attitude of those whose only job it is ,is to criticize, and just as in the last 60 years all the media love a headline!
No one will care in 2 years .
Anyone who needs information will have to hire companies to get that info, creating jobs, which is very good for the country.

I feel the debate on the issue of mandatory vs. compulsory data accuracy has been lost in the debate.

That's so fcuken typical.... twist the issue to something else.

Fcuken commie bastards!!

No you didn't, you just blurt out the usual thoughtless comments. It may work on the Dark Side, but you'd think you'd know by now that it doesn't work here.

Good riddance to everything and anything that the government does! They do it poorly, and usually at 4 times the cost that a for-profit company would spend!
Remember the $200 Million dollar gun registry? That is the norm for anything that any govenment takes on, except for Sam Katz and the City of Winnipeg!

Just Imagine if your employees joined CUPE..

Would you be able to remain in business if your workforce suddenly did half its job for twice the pay?

No wonder we pay so much taxes, paying for the millions of unionized civil servants with big fat pensions.

Ahh.. I'll bet most of those people working government jobs would be F U C K ED if they had to go out in the private world and find a job.
