i say good for them!!!

$102 million for a single player is ridiculous.
That kind of money should be buying an ENTIRE TEAM!!!

In an economy where people can barely afford to pay their mortgage, and they propose stupid contracts like that? Even if I WAS a hockey fan...it's announcements like that which make me not want to attend games even more. ESPECIALLY when I know I wouldn't be getting my money's worth anyway. It's not like I'd go to his game and he'd be walking on water (oh wait...bad example).

For that kind of money...I would expect him to play EVERY GAME (even if he had a broken leg), and score a dozen goals per game (unless he's a goalie...didn't look...but then he should NEVER get scored on).

It is obscene isn't it? We are our own worse enemy...

It is good, because pay schedules like that eliminated those $7 Seven-Eleven nose bleed seats, that allowed me to take my 4 kids to a hockey game!

If all NHL salaries were cut in half today.. right now. And a corresponding ticket reduction was done as well. Would the game be better off? Worse?

you forgot..it wouldn't change at all Dean.

In fact, if all the player's salaries were cut in half today...whether ticket prices changed or not...the game would not suffer at all...PROVIDED...there was nowhere else for those players to go to make more money again.

Most of those players would still play.
A couple of whiners would quit thinking they were making a "statement", but after a very short time...everyone would forget who they were and what they were trying to prove.

I think it might be a little better as more people would be attending games perhaps in some of the lower sales arenas. More fans always pumps a game up.

Perhaps...but it doesn't change the abilities of the players.

I disagree
having a crowd behind you or against you even, pumps you up like mad and takes the game to another level
