I would rather the taxpayer not foot the bill for such traveling.

I would rather see money spent on things like upgrading schools that are inadequate and creating classes for non-English speakers so that they don't drop out of regular classes and become gang members. A teacher friend mentioned this to me, about non-English speaking students, right here in Winnipeg.

Providing a quality education to those that aren't receiving one, seems like a better way to spend scarce tax dollars.

Triniman, I totally agree with you on making our education system better and upgrading some of the buildings in the school system. As for the "kids" who are non English speakers, if they are challenged early enough they will learn how to speak the language. The challenge put forth to them needs to be fun and enjoyable, not boring and rote. Boring and rote is what makes these kids walk away and right into the arms of the awaiting gangs. But there is also the problem of their parents not knowing the language so don't understand what is being said when the kids are on the phone talking to the "gangbangers" so can't prevent them from getting into trouble. But that is another debate that could go on for a long time.

In the meantime, if we have a choice on where to send the kids, the Holocaust Museum in Washington DC, or the CMHR in Winnipeg I know my choice would be to send them to Winnipeg, where at least some of the content will be Canadian. And then there woudl be more money to be spent on other educational programmes.

Don't you reckon that sending semi-literate/illterate immigrants to a museum is a complete mis-direction (waste) of money?

Not a complete waste of money, not all museums are literary, most now are auditory and visual in nature. BUT a lot of the immigrants that are now coming to Canada, especially Winnipeg are coming because of the atrocities being suffered in their home land so going to a museum to see something they have most likely endured and maybe even participated in themselves is a waste of money. Once these folks learn the language and can deal with the pain, why not have them actually speak to their fellow students about what happened to them and why them came to Canada. I know I learned more about WWII and the Nazi concentration camps from my mother-in-law and grandmother in law because of first hand experience. As our seniors continue to die off, we are losing a lot of the verbal history that is so important but this is what a museum can help support, the atrocities of the past (as well as the victories).
But I digress. If there is one thing I can be very passionate about it is history and how it has helped shape who I am today. I have a very well documented history/family tree. I also minored in history in university so it is a something that I continue to study and explore.

learning about human rights abuses is all fine and good but there has to be a time when the past is let go. zionists will tell you "if we dont remember the past were doomed to repeat it." what many people fail to realize is that to them, their version of the past is but a tool. a tool to be used as an instrument to manipulate society to reach their evil goals. case in point, the asper CMHR.
