We're on the cusp of starting golf season again in Manitoba, after a very short 4 month break. It's hard to believe that we golfed as late at the last week in November and we're starting up again, likely near the end of March. The more days to golf, the merrier!

Of course, the 2010 Masters begins Thursday, April 8, about three weeks from now. I'm predicting record viewership, particularly if a certain somebody is in the lead!

Friends of ours have a tee time tomorrow at Kingswood in La Salle. Too bad hubby can't make it, our grand daughter's first birthday party is tomorrow afternoon.

Please tell us what kind of condition the course is in if you find out.
(Snow on course, wet, etc.)
I am also anxious to go out. Golf season begins again! Icon_biggrin
Thanks.

Coincidentally, #1 son played at Kingswood on Sunday. Says the course is not bad, dry, greens not bad (not green yet) only a couple in rough shape. He was supposed to start work (at a golf course) for Thursday, but that might be on hold for a week.

So far, I've played Blumberg, Tuxedo,Transcona and yesterday, River Oaks. All are playable. The greens will get better, of course.

I'm off to my best start ever, score-wise.

I also bought sleeves of some new balls:
TaylorMade Penta. This is their 5-layer ball. Haven't hit it yet.

Bridgestone 330-RX. Haven't hit it. It's meant for people with slower swing speeds than most pros.

Srixon Z-Star X Yellow. This is a bright yellow ball. Haven't hit it.

Callaway Tour i(z.) Fantastic ball. I was first blown away by Callaway's Tour iX ball, but they've discontinued it and this is one of the two replacements. Great distance and feel when you hit it. Apparently, Phil Mickelson plays this ball. It doesn't feel as firm as one of my favorite balls, the Titleist Pro V1x, but the feel is very appealing.

Nike Crush. At just over a buck a ball, these are about 1/4 the price of the other balls, but they are supposed to be lower-spinning and thus straighter than a typical pro ball. For an average player, these would more than suffice. I wouldn't buy them again as I prefer balls that have better feel to them.

One must be very careful as unpredictable cold weather has an effect on one's balls.

So what would be the best way to keep one's balls warm in cooler temperatures in order to achieve peak performance.

Hubby and I went to Mars Sandhills yesterday. Course is in great shape for April, greens are running quite fast. Had a great day. Each year I set one specific goal to reach by the end of the season and now I have to maintain that goal because I reached it on the very first round. He has played at Blumberg, Kildonan (twilight during the week only), Cottonwood so far this year and all have been in decent shape. Kildonan this weekend was absolutley ridiculously backed up...that is why we never go there on the weekend unless he is in a cash tournament.

Is your green running? Better go catch it. Ba dom bom. I'm here all week. Try the veal.

I like your signature hg: "Some people are like slinkies - not really good for anything but they bring a smile to your face when pushed down the stairs". Am I on your list?

My list changes from day to day GOM so today you have not yet made it but keep it up ...
There are only two people from this forum on my permanent list of "slinkies" and I think that either one of them or both would be on most people's "slinkie" list.

I played three rounds at Mars Sandhills, last year. Teriffic course. Cottonwood is a place I may play once every five years as it isn't one of my favorites. Played Kildonan for the first time last year. It's very similar to Windsor Park. I hope to play it once this year.

The weather is nice for that. Three rounds in one day? Using a golf cart?

Yes, two power carts for my foursome.

We teed off around 7:50 am, played 27 holes before breaking for lunch, then 27 more holes. Finished around 6:30 pm.

Cost was 37.50 for moi and around $32 for the other guys in my group as they qualified as seniors.

The course was mostly quiet. We never waited on people ahead of us and no one waited on us.

La Verendrye golf course is an hour away which may discourage Winnipeg golfers, but to golf nuts like us, it's an easy, worthwhile drive.
